Jordan Peterson thinks it makes sense to compare humans with lobsters

first edit said "(probably) dolphins" - then i thought it kinda undermined my argument. i'm willing to give dolphins the benefit of the doubt - but come to think of it, wasn't that the result of all lilley's tests - that he couldn't communicate with them https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/jun/08/the-dolphin-who-loved-me

*dolphones i typed there briefly
'The Dolphones' sounds like some garage group who recorded a legendary, crackly 7" in 1966.

Have you seen the documentary 'Blackfish'? Makes a pretty compelling argument for whale intelligence.

i didnt quite mean that... i meant his route to fame. the energies he harnessed
He mainly appeals to men who feel lost and want their own dumbest, most archaic notions confirmed by someone who taught at Harvard, and appeals to 'science' and 'the basic myths of mankind' and lobsters over, like, emotions and respect for other people and thinking about stuff a bit.

Isn't he just harnessing the will for an 'intellectual' (well I suppose he can claim intellectual credentials, insomuch as that means anything) right-wing figure to complement Trumpism? Same route to fame as Milo.

it was the trans thing mostly, the way i see it. mens rights. resentment. fear. demons, in other words.

Yes, he is the 4chan Professor.

@Luka aren't men of a misogynist bent thrilled that the issues around MtF transitions can be used to sow discord among women?

But resentment, yep - a lot of men are scared for justifiable reasons of being seen as surplus to requirements in the modern world, and who else could they possibly blame but women and minorities?

In all fairness, some feminists are quite virulently transphobic in their own right.

May be true, but for women the stakes are somewhat higher than for men in terms of new legislation etc. Accusations of transphobia have been thrown around continuously, some legit, some not. But that's a huge and confusing issue. The fact that Jordan Peterson is a tool is much more cut and dried.

He's legit in my view. People read all kinds of thing into him because of culture war agendas and the current polarization of political discourse.

Regarding the lobster thing people are getting triggered because it is a bit comic. He lays out (common knowledge) research about chimpansee hierarchies or inherent play circuits in rats that easily could fit the 'opposite' agenda.

he's been trying to work on the mythological plane but hes not an initiate so hes getting muddled. if i ever meet him i'll try and get him back on track.

Anyone that goes mainstream and advocating a strict anti-materialist position without going totally woo-woo is a breath of fresh air these days.

Definitely. Proposed changes to the GRA in favour of self-ID would remove vital sex-based protections for women. Peterson obviously couldn't give a shit about this, so its important not to conflate the two positions.

JB is so dumb he doesn't realise that his views actually have a lot in common with transgenderism.

I think this particular case is more highlighting the problems in social science generally. They cant do properly controlled experiments, even if ethics aren't considered most of the time its not even remotely feasible. So the closest the field ever gets to doing proper science is with observing animals and then trying to extrapolate that to humans in a very generalized way. I think Peterson's line is not so much that human's "natural" hierarchical structures are morally sound because they are "natural" more that going against the order of things will inevitably lead to --insert string of hyperbole-- untold chaos and destruction or whatever. Everything he talks about whether it be freedom of speech, parenting, gender identity seems to end up with the basic fundamental idea that we are potentially headed for some kind of socialist apocalypse.
