You can think of all kinds of dials with the finest of gradients, more, or less.

As you turn this dial the jaw becomes more or less pronounced and protruding. This dial is the brow, the tilt of it, the height of it. This dial is the colours, how saturated they are. This dial is arousal. What happens at the upper and lower ends? This dial is tension.

the thing is I don't really associate garage with surrender really but more with that point just before surrender. it's like arrested orgasm. nearly all good rave music works on arrested orgasm sensation really. house itself is just pulse really. the sexuality of the quotidian rather than the act explicitly. but 2step is jittery.

You don't really ever have the full moon or the new moon. Its the phases in between.

what we've left behind is a notion of organic rhythms. so any analysis of music we have has to take that into account. it's impossible to drum a electro boogie or garage or house rhythm. which is where i don't get versions conention. if you want to associate reduction of human labour with a masculine process rather than an abstract process then yeah sure be my guest but it seems weird.

'feminine pressure' in the Reynolds sense is describing a social phenomenon, not the aesthetic parameters we're analysing. me, you and version are all in agreement that 2step is defined by it's masculine qualities.

This is a fertile area for discussion. As I say it's partly what I wanted to discuss in iconisation but no one would play with me they thought I was just high on drugs.

Well more birds (heck more people) went to house nights than jungle nights, for obvious reasons. that's pretty much it.

House and garage was not a dissensus. amazing music but not a dissensus. grime was a dissensus for a while. jungle/hardcore continues to be a dissensus.

house and garage hit at the right time, during the right kind of changes in the social composition and the climate. you wouldn't go to a jungle club unless you wanted your car broken into or to get robbed. not because of gangsters in the rave or whatever but because those areas were simply areas barred to most people at the time. ive heard of people having to dodge bullets outside the doors of laserdrome.

If you want to argue whether cults and dissensus' are inherently masculine I'd be well down for that.

I reckon everyone must have one thread they mourn. One that didn't take off that they had high hopes for. Cherished. Thought it had such a bright future. Imagining all sorts of adventures and fun times.

I just wish uk funky vs acid house sleazy d from london became a thing so version could understand us.

I mean there is a reason this was way more far out than detroit at the time...

even the majority of the black community into dance music outside the dissensus areas of hardcore-jungle were into housengarage up until around 94 and many stuck with it. how did that happen? usually the narritive goes that deep house purism was a white thing. I do tend to doubt that in London.

But then again those were the days of kiss fm.

it seems that any scene that starts as a dissensus and then is infected with the capital virus or goes overboard then has a masculine pressure historicising it. this rarely seems to come from women. why's that? I don't think it's wanting to own the culture exclusively. undoubtedly there is a lot of that, but...

It seems that secrecy is endowed with a militant masculinity or a maleness in todays society. why is that?
why are disco connoisseurs by and large straight blokes, sometimes obnoxiously laddishly so?

How about we contend that femininity is the commons, it is the escape from the world of alienated and separated time? Masculinity is the separation from life whereas femininity is life itself?

In this sense it makes sense to see jungle's fitful rhythms as not masculine but a response to the alienation inherent within masculinity.

I dont have the census numbers here. I'm trying to break you into to this way of working. Like a wild stallion learning to accept a rider. Learning to love the saddle and the sPurs.

If we can start speaking the same language it becomes much easier for you to teach us about capital and we can start adding that in the mix. But we are at the very early stages. Building a language. It doesn't really support specialised discourses like yours and bartys yet, but it will. It's just pidgin at the moment.

I don't really want to talk about real men and real women and what men supposedly do or what women supposedly do. It doesn't make much sense to me. I tend to think of the experiencing dreaming imagining astral travelling body as hemaphrodite anyway.

Using props. Planning out your session in advance. Allocating a time bloc. Stroking yourself with a feather. Plunging your nob into hot water then cold. Blowing it with a hairdryer. Liberated wanking.

Out in nature. The cleansing all seeing sun above you. Lovely sun heat on the genital region. Knocking one out in the long grass. A ladybird lands in your scrotal folds. All part of the process. Liberated wanking.

Putting on a different voice to talk dirty to yourself, a sexy sultry Marilyn Monroe voice for instance, or a gruff Bruce Lancaster. A whole other sexual personna to interact with. Liberated wanking.

He smelt of horses, the Anatolian plains, the mountain air, sweat, the sea and it's restless, salty tang, gypsy dances, promises, romance. Jenny swooned with all the confusion and excitement of a sudden passion. Aroused, his lithe, bronze body a provocation, standing there, hands on hips and feet planted far apart, so sure himself, so sensual, you didn't come across men like this in Barnes
"Take me" she found herself saying, in a voice she'd never heard before, thick and hoarse with whispered, hot desire "Take me, impregnate me with your wild and vigorous nomad seed."
