Wait was he the one who came over one of craners juice box records? an ex-dissensoid even! the mystery continues.

For the record Dominic when i say i think your stuff is a bit boring it usually means i haven't listened to nearly enough and have no real opinion. there are only really two absolutist modes in post-thirdformatic stress disorder. virulent evangelism and sheer hatred. everything else is just bit boring even if it's life changing. i have to pretend I know about music more than I actually do.

i also prefer new 93 or 96 never died amen fetishising jungle to fl studio soundcloud jungle, sorry droid. that stuff just sounds like it trying to catch up with rap. the stuff i like is a heads/connoisseur sound, granted, but you can make the exception for you're most passionate genre surely? surely for something you know the ins and outs of it the if it ain't broke don't fix it formula can be applicable on occasion?

The problem with the new jungle producers is they are like us on here. they have an autistic knowledge of the genre. whereas the og junglists were sampling from everywhere and anywhere. so this stuff is obviously never going to achieve great to cannon status. I've long since accepted that tbh. it's not a scene i'm invested in as a progression or cultural comment, if I just want to hear back to basics jungle in a slightly new variation then it's there, just like punks like new bands doing no nonsense hardcore. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that.

Ive seen too many talented producers get sucked into the amen black hole and never return. Too many potentially great tunes ruined by a stifling amen blanket. For me the most exciting stuff are people like Phineus 2, or even some of the new metalheadz stuff where the focus is on the original experimental spirit of sampling or pure dancefloor destruction.

Pretty sure Calibre's never been on Dissensus.

I associate new music with fatigue at the moment. It feels like the same LEGO set has been built and rebuilt over and over by so many people and for so long that it doesn't matter how you arrange the pieces because it's the individual pieces themselves which I'm now becoming tired of. That and everything around new music, the way it's presented and so on just sucks the life out of it.

it's fucking darkside though isn't it.

don't mistake your inability to explore the genre with the good stuff not existing. too often this happens on this forum. i can do you a huge list of labels but probably not worth it.

uh oh. Peak time avant-techno; that label was on fire in the mid 90s. Tales from the crib from the same ep is even more freaky. But honestly the techno aversions on here resembles my parents' when I was 16. The junglist massive really don't get it. And vice versa I guess.

The junglist massive DO get it, that's why they invented jungle.

I don't think jungle was a response to purist/minimal techno which didn't even evolve to something recognizable before 93-94. Seperate ways, but not antagonistic.

I was being facetious, but for many people, jungle was definitely an alternative - a refuge from house (particularly progressive house) and other 4 to the floor genres like trance which dominated mainstream dance in the mid 90s.

And this isn't a polemic against the idea or history of 4 to the floor, its against the utter and increasing dominance of the most braindead beat in music played at the most insipid tempo.

Darned cockwombles.
Some very good 130, reminding me of ILM pre-Dissensus days. RIP Philippe Zdar, horrible news and bizarre echoes of the way DJ Mehdi died some years ago.

So was miminal/detroit techno in the mid 90s. The adversary was prog house and goa trance. Often there was a seperate jungle/d&b room at these clubs. This was if not celebrated then at least tolerated by the tech heads, but if you did play anything resembling trance you were dead.

Frontpage/Debug which was the main rave fanzine in Germany back then (and with some influence I'd say - or def on my buying habits) never reviewed German trance or UK prog house, or if so they ridiculed it - even 'respectable' acts (Underworld etc). To the contrary acid/minimal techno and jungle was equally celebrated as the 'authentic' aesthetic.
