The Tower of Babel is such a powerful story and it recurs again and again... I like Kafka's typically self-defeating take on it where each generation realises that the next generation will have better technology to build and so they will need to knock down what is already built and start again, and so each generation just builds houses for the next one to live in and the tower itself is never started.

harold bloom feels kafka is indispensable for exegesis of the bible and kabbalah to generations following him. haven't delved into him but was compelled by his argument

someone once said that eve coming from the rib of adam was like cell division.

man is a mud pie. but woman was made from a living creature. woman is the "true earthling"
woman is also likely candidate for the first horticulturalist (garden of the plain, tree of knowledge - good and evil)?... storytelling is also about "weaving", remember. baskets woven from reeds and cannabis. woman is also perhaps the true moses...
or:
man must bend his back ("sacrifice one from his side") to "form", ie "make something" of woman (the embittered misogynist take)

there's some theory that there was a flood in the black sea that inspired all this.
some also say the persian gulf iirc.
there's these two fringe anthropology books i grabbed hypothesising southeast asia (hence the island countries and sunken cities there, the idea is they used to be contiguous land-mass, and that the culture(s) there worshipped trees). have to look at that also

At this thread's inception Luka and I were very determined for it not to turn into 'let's poke fun at the bible'.

But somehow Barty transcends all rules.

iirc to be admitted into the sanhedrin one had to interpret the torah in such a way to permit one thing which is explicitly forbidden in the "plain-text" pronunciation/reading.

there's been loads and loads of stuff about people chatting by a well and how many shekkels everything costs and how much it all ways. it's all bogged down in the everyday. but that's maybe why it's remarkable. if it was all just floods and angels nobody would give a shit. it needs this stuff to become pertinent.

it's all about the material culture, baby. notice that genesis two also describes the minerals/compounds u can find by the four rivers

It says bless the lads and it means bless the lads.

"MAY REUVEN LIVE AND NOT DIE" makes me tear up every time i read it, actually. i feel like mosheh is talking to me, that i'm reuven.
that i should have a measure of confidence in my own good intentions. that i'm worthy of a long life, of more life, of the Blessing.
the way in devarim (deuteronomy) mosheh turns ya'aqov's curses from b'reishis (genesis) into blessings, in general. the lads grew up and their kids turned out okay ( , : that whole end section is one of my favorites, the yosef cycle of b'reishis, also.

any complexity or cryptic elements certainly gave the priests a kind of hierophantic position right from the start...
"you shall be set-apart because I AM set-apart"
"a nation of priests"
there's also some pieces about the consonantal text, the masorah and the targum (earliest translation for the aramaic-speaking communities of jews) i wanted to talk ab but i'll make a couple more quick posts
i haven't started at all on self-care or chores but this is really the stuff that sets my brain on fire. can't help myself

Ah interesting. I wouldn't make such claims (I'm not ruling them out, just can't make 'em myself) but was rather drawing attention to how the bible inspires people to go in all kinds of different directions - if it circles back round again to shed light on it so much the better. Maybe a bit optimistic, but can you summarise his argument?

Eve's mis-actions threw the whole co-ordinated plan of the harmonious introduction of the new DNA into the lower Cro-Magnon population in disarray, and the emigre's were forced to start incarnating in mass into Earth's lower Cro-Magnon outer population in complete disharmony.

The two children of Adam and Eve, which you popularly call Cain and Able in your Earth records were not two individuals walking about. They were the two ensuing racial streams which began incarnating into the third dimensional Cro-Magnon outer world population condition after the default of the Garden.

In reflection of the more direct Cro-Magnon ties in consciousness to the lower animal kingdom through the inter breeding, the lineage initiated by Eve's inappropriate action was started up within the outer evolutionary Cro-Magnon population as a specific group variant called 'Cain'. The original higher frequency emigre's of the Garden of Eden incarnated initially within the Cro-Magnon population, upholding their higher frequencies of consciousness as a self contained group called 'Abel'.

Over time, the Abel incarnate group gradually became absorbed little by little into the much more prevalent lower level Cain Cro-Magnon frequencies through successive re-incarnations. Until eventually the original Able higher frequency presences became extinguished. In your lesser art, you refer to the passing as 'Cain killing Able'.

The newly seeded Human form was now at wild within the third dimensional Planetary incarnate to catch on or not ad hoc.

The sanctified body was successfully put to the test by Jesus Christ two thousand years ago as test pilot, as one of the main of his many mandated responsibilities. Who successfully incarnated, then transfigured, then successfully resurrected into full fifth dimensional Morontia Substance form. Proving to finality that the new Human form had successfully migrated through the Planetary incarnate anyway. A miracle in its own right given the uncertainty of the paths it took to get it there.

"And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. 10Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac. 11And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son. 12And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called. 13And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed. 14And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba."

the lineage mohammad would come from

"Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept."

economy and bluntness is the key to emotional impact.

the best lyrics ever are stone roses "i want to be adored". they work on the same principal.

also i love the thing of voices being "lifted".

"Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand". love that too.

Hājar soon ran out of water, and Ismā'īl, an infant by that time, began to cry from hunger/thirst. Hājar panicked and ran between two nearby hills, Al-Safa and Al-Marwah, repeatedly in search for water. After her seventh run, an angel appeared over the location of the Zamzam and then hit the ground with his heel (or his wing) and caused a miraculous well to spring out of the ground. This is called the Zamzam Well and is located a few metres from the Kaaba in Mecca.[23]

A miracle this happened

Sad that I clearly read at least a bit of the bible and I remember nothing about any of it now
