Dog went AWOL yesterday, lost in the mists up on the moors by our dog walker. I left work early and wife too, to go and look. Cue frantic Facebook posts and sitting in last seen place with van doors open and food and our clothes as scent.
We got a load of help from a tracking service on Facebook, very reassuring and helpful. I was out on the moors til 4am, playing sudoku and listening to classic fm. Periodically driving off to get warm and a phone signal.
He toddled home just after 4 (where my wife was waiting, front door open, all lights on) having been out of pocket 19 hours. Seems he took the long way around, sticking to streams, fields, was covered in brambles.
Trip to vet just now cos he was shaking and breathing fast but seems OK. Felt like the universe smiled on us a bit, especially after reading other horror stories. This voluntary tracking group were amazing, we'll make a donation.
