I didnt buy into OF either and i quite like Bigg Jus"s solo stuff i need to go back to that 2nd NMS album cause i didnt like it as much as the first one(why people didnt give a shit obviously race plays into it but also i think people took it that El-P was the brains of the 3 that and in a way Def Jux was more palatable and had a brand all its own where as Jus was doing shit with no name producers and Orko the Sykotic Alien who unless you go deep into that vein of LA rap nobody cares about that guy)

Jus is a weird comparison cause he was almost willfully dense and i find it interesting you say that anybody could do this when i feel like that was always kind of the complained leveled at Juss"s kinda rap in the sense that you have a atonal beat spout a bunch of gibberish that mixes cartoons conspiracy theories and a couple jabs at Time Warner and people would hold you up as a lyrical god.

Its funny cause ive seen one or two people bring up Ariel Pink in regards to MIKE and maybe in that low grade faded sample production style its there but otherwise theres nothing there linking the two imo

i feel it comes across that way because theres a ton of people on bandcamp who have done some varieant of that "wave" style

Barty: I'd say the big difference is the sound of garage and of rave isn't nearly as abstracted with Burial as the form of rap in the hands of these kids at their best.

This is why I compared it to Bigg Jus. Abstraction. He's the closest reference I could think of when it comes to abstract rap. Similar asymmetry in the beats. Usage of old timey sounds. He's way more muscular in his productions though. But that's not my main gripe. The biggest thing that I struggle with is the lack of energy. It feels apathetic. And maybe that's their thing, idk. But it just doesn't do it for me.

This one for Barty might nail what I'm trying to say.

@Patty; IDK man, the lack of energy isn't a gesture of apathy as far as I see personally. I don't hear apathy in someone saying something like "Throw a penny in a fountain/Form a ring around my coffin" as much as there is a slack energy to the vocals. It's not fighting with the din of the production but rather trying to lie down upon it in trust.

Patty's dodged it another day to talk about the Chris Daddy Dave band again, thus we've had two board members enthuse for them (me and Webs) and two members express resistance and disbelief (Patty & Luka). They are now the:

Quantifiable for it's on topic, I think Odai would agree.

I know I've presented this before and Luka felt it was almost a joke. Sensed the internet on it.

Here's arguably more conventional (?) outings. He also has friends who mine this style alongside him

Should point out as well that the Standing on the Corner crew are also a jazz band in addition to their interest in rap so there's something for Patty to bite into

Maybe something for Barty to be amused with idk. Oh this crew also has a rich hacky patron

Odai can handle more while I'm at work I presume/hope if this gets bites.
