In what sense?

In terms of what is of what can be in terms of what we know what we have already discovered or suspected in terms of how much is still to come and discoveries still to be made.

My sense is that there are other territories, other regions of discovery, comparable to the discovery of the Americas, whole zones, hitherto unimagined, to be explored.

This is what I believe.

What the Elizabethan age was to the world map. Suddenly realising there were whole continents we had been in total ignorance of, with other animals, other plants, other cultures, other languages, other gods.

There are still plenty of places on Earth we have little to no knowledge of, so God knows what else we don't know.

sometimes you can discover things by zooming out though

I like the idea of zooming in far enough that it becomes another world/landscape. Worlds within worlds. The grooves on a record become valleys.

It's the same with meeting new people isn't? you're a tourist in their life and it's exciting for a while, until you start recognizing the same areas and the thrill of discovery fades. Then you gotta hope that they make a good home.

I sometimes feel like I'm destined to be the tourist forever.

That's right.

was thinking, in regards to third's thread, for me there is a certain "zoomed out" quality to a lot of this stuff. like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_game. a lot of these composers, like xenakis, used words like "clouds" or "galaxies" to describe the dense clusters of sounds they used, which I think fits as well.

Yeah, that or zoomed right in. You're looking at either distant stars and galaxies or microorganisms - maybe even both.

With you there, we're at the end of an age in certain senses. End of the Mayan calendar for a start. The exploration age I'm talking about is but a drop in the ocean, ultimately. But there was a clear narrative for people to witness and feel a part of. The chapters had beginnings, middles and ends. Discovery A leads to result B. A war is fought and won which leads to xyz, etc etc. Dance music was part of a technological explosion and happened to coincide with various socio political factors that gave it a sense of positive progress. Intertwined in its fabric was that sense of exploration. Positive exploration. Now music seems to reflect the scorched earth. The lost souls and minds of our collective. Maybe its a big shake out. Maybe this is a transition to the next age. A Mexican lady I worked with in the kitchen at the Buddhist place was telling me that that's how it is. We're in for plenty of turbulence, maybe for the next 50 years. It was vague but I could tell she meant it.

just to say ta (but properly) for this thread - totally hit the proverbial nail
(i hope - i havent digested it fully yet)

we need the map for the next bit though ... where are we heading? What are the obstacles and pitfalls to overcome or avoid, which turnings lead to evolution and salvation

expansion outwards in all directions. the big bang. the crucifix pose. drawings of stars (and their associations; cosmic, star of david, etc), drawings of the sun with the circle in the middle and all the rays spreading out, leonardo divinci's man with all his limbs in different directions (arm leg leg arm head), lifting hands in rapture.
