Beast of Burden
Maybe not underrated, because it is an acknowledged classic of the old school, but it has languished for a while and is almost forgotten.

One of Luke's.

Invent Neo-Con strategies

the neo-cons are the most fun bunch of politicians in living memory, those guys have got big balls, they've got vision and the will to see those visions become reality

outflank the neo-cons, preempt their policies...

invent your own neo-con strategies, the more bold the better

Build mosques throughout the Muslim world, huge, ornate,
gold cupolas gleaming, walls inlaid with jewels
Install undercover mullahs in the mosques
Have them preach the virtues of the free market and rampant consumerism
‘A man shall be judged by the welath of his possession’
‘It is harder for a man who drives a Japanese car to enter heaven than it is for a butterfly to turn back into a caterpillar. He who drives a Chevrolet will drive his car to the very gates of heaven, where it will be refuelled and given a full valet service.’
‘Allah shows his displeasure with nations by making them poor. The rich are blessed by the lord. All hail America, richest and most blessed of nations.’

Have suicide bombers exploding in mosques and crowded market places.

Use Photoshop to depict Muslim political and religious leaders engaged in acts of sodomy, fellatio and bestiality. Picture them spitting on the Koran and rubbing their balls with a rubber crucifix in a lascivious fashion, murmuring, in low erotic tones, ‘I give my love to Jesus, I give all my love to Jesus.’

Covertly nationalise all major record companies. Ensure all popular recording artists sing propaganda songs. Have Usher sing about the merits of American Democracy. Have him invent a funky, but easy to mimic ‘democracy dance’ to accompany the song. Beam the music videos to all hostile nations via satellite technology. At the end of the video the whole world will be pictured smiling and doing the democracy dance while enjoying quintessential American products, Marlboro cigs, Budweiser, Jack Daniels and Coca-Cola…

Employ secret agents to scrawl pro-Bush administration graffiti on the walls of the famous ‘Arab Street’

Plant uncover agents as reporters for Al-Jazeera. Have them broadcast stories about Americans rescuing Palestinian babies from certain death, at great personal risk, stories about the Iranian government using human guinea pigs to test the effects of radiation, stories about how the name of Allah keeps appearing mysteriously in American meat and vegetables.

Use a Bin Laden lookalike to record a series of videos, all with contradictory messages.
One says ‘I have renounced Islam and become a Mormon’
One says ‘I have renounced Islam and reverted to my former playboy way. Life is about more then prayer and Jihad, it is about big breasted women and fast cars. Rejoice’
One says ‘If the rabbit ran faster, it would be an alley cat’ then raises one eyebrow in a knowing fashion
One says ‘My former path of violence was merely a product of my repressed homosexuality. I have met a good American man who has helped reconcile me to my sexuality. I have abandoned my violent ways and now live a life of blissful sodomy and Judy Garland records.
One says nothing, the video consists of him doing Ushers ‘democracy dance’ and lip-syncing to the song.

Pay publishers to mistranslate the Koran, in an attempt to influence non-Arabic speaking Muslims.

OK, sorry, I misunderstood. You were facilitating a discussion about my susceptibility to the aesthetics of white Identitarianism. Huge difference.

craner feels about luke the way my mum feels about my dad. encumbered with bitterness and begrudging decades-old wrongs that were never righted.

Help us dissect it. Put your shoulder to the wheel. You're interested in clothes and how different generations and groups express their values and aspirations through clothes. It's tailor made for you that thread. Stop being silly and join the fun.

two men both desperate for an apology from one another, but both with such diverging perspectives as to make that untenable.

if only craner could say "i'm sorry i've been so off with you. i'm sorry i've found your affection so distressing. i'm sorry i'm so cold and so distant. i'm sorry i've felt wrongfully victimised by your playfulness".

if only luke could say "i'm sorry i've tormented your every waking moment. i'm sorry i've harassed and harangued you. i'm sorry i've lied about you. i'm sorry i've baited you and provoked you. i'm sorry i've made your life a living hell."

but the problem is these two perspectives are mutually exclusive. they both feel like the victim. they both feel the other has been callous. they both feel the onus is on the other to amend for their wrongdoing, to extend the olive branch.

and thus they remain in this limbo. a hateful affection. a rageful love.

Not at all, I have respect and affection for him, apart from the periodic moments when he decides to slime me in a malicious, insidious and public manner. I've also known him for 16 years, so I know that when he puts one thing ("90% of his Twitter is Quillette") next to another ("white identity") he is insinuating a link for effect and a laugh, but with no understanding of the point where banter becomes something worse and he's publicly identifying me with Tommy Robinson or something without any context and in a way that people would take at face value.

And the irony is that the one and only Quillette essay I linked to was about the ITN-Living Marxism libel case, an essay that unambiguously condemned '90s Serb nationalism (a flagrant case of murderous white identity politics) and its LM propagandists (the core group that went on to launch Spiked, which I had also compared Quillette to earlier).

i think you two downplay how much corrosion there's been between you and how genuinely sad that is. you should be far better friends than you are. you should be a lot closer than you are. your affection for each other is far greater than your interactions with each other.

I'm sorry you're boilers broken Craner. I'm sorry if it seemed like I was calling you a Tommy Robinson campaign funding white supremacist. I just noticed the quillette links on your Twitter, looked into what it was briefly, found it hilarious and pathetic and thought it would be good thread fodder. Which it was.

I'm sure the article you linked to is a great article but that wasn't the point of the thread. The point of the thread was to laugh at quillette and yes, admittedly, goad you a little bit about your affection for right wing discourse and fiercely groomed conservatives with big hair and diamonds.

Luka it doesn't feel good having the political air leveraged against you underhanded like that. It feels, I don't know, sardonic. Like, it could be playful but the with the current political discourse on the internet there's something a little bit sinister to it.

I'd rather be called a cunt to my face than that.
