The Outer Limits

Say there was a person who didn't know much else other than normal people music. They hadn't heard any jungle other than general levee. They'd never heard krautrock or 70's miles. they hadn't heard 24 track loop or world of echo. they'd never heard any music that ever truly surprised them. any music that they couldn't comprehend. they'd never explored completely unfamiliar sonic terrain. imagine someone who didn't have the faintest idea of all the things music could be; of all its potential.

what would you play to them? which tracks would show them the iight?

the creme de la creme outer limits of the hardcore continuum, and drone and jazz and rock and dub and footwork, etc.

the stargate portals. the ancient pyramids of long-deceased alien races. music of the gods.

the unprecedented ones. the ones that distill an aesthetic to their purest form. music with the sickest, most insane sonics.

Shameless YouTube dumping encouraged, though comments and commentaries always welcome.

no being judgemental aloud. a safe space for nerds, their eccentricities and their hobbyhorses.

i don't know if this is Outer Limits exactly, it's not that forbidding or mindshredding, but i think it's really otherworldly and enchanting

This is one of the only things in the musique concrete vein this composer did - everything else is with the traditional orchestra - he was older than the other people like Pierres Schaeffer and Henry, Parmegiani, Ferrari, Bayle etc - but Monsieur Sauguet was a game old geezer and he had a go and he came up with that beauty

Or maybe some Lee Perry? Putting these in specifically for the dubs because they're where beautiful vocal performances take off into hyperspace

Dusty

Tone deaf

or perhaps, for sheer belligerence and with no intention of actually winning said person over;

after that palette cleanser. Offer them something sun-drenched.

and just plain beautiful

the outer limits aren't necessarily the most effective entry points, might be too off-putting/scary. "sweet Jane", not "sister ray".

also, the person in question would need to be receptive and open to this exploration, otherwise it would be like me with, say, contemporary dance: you could show me the most advanced and amazing practitioners and it would in all likelihood be meaningless and just bounce off my philistine eyeballs.

the threads not intented to win a real person over. i just want to hear lots of music.

lost opportunity, it's an interesting premise for discussion. otherwise this just becomes a massive "here's the canon" YT dump, as you mentioned.
