"asking for help.

“These were people who were essentially facing a barrage of negative information and downward trends in their work … and the more they engaged with the issue, the more they realised what needed to be done – and the more they felt that was bigger than their capacity to enact meaningful change,” he said. “The consequences of this can be pretty dire – anxiety, burnout and a sort of professional paralysis.”

Kennedy-Williams began to research the topic and realised it was not just scientists and researchers who were suffering. “There is a huge need among parents, for instance, who are asking for support on how to talk to their kids about this.”

When Kennedy-Williams began focusing on young people he assumed most would be older teenagers or at least have started secondary school. But he soon discovered worrying levels of environment-related stress and anxiety in much younger children."

Do you think Chicago drill is music being produced under the most extreme levels of anxiety?

"2016, the year Chicago recorded its highest murder rate in two decades, with 762 people killed."

"From 2010 to 2014, 114 school children were murdered in Chicago."

"In September 2015, Chicago was named "America's mass shooting capital", citing 18 occasions in 2015 in which at least four people were shot in a single incident.[35] In 2016, the number of murders soared to 769.[12] August 2016 marked the most violent month Chicago had recorded in over two decades with 92 murders..."

"Since 2001, Chicago has experienced 7,916 murders (as of September 06, 2016). The number of Americans killed in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq was 2,384 and 4,504 respectively since 2001."

Dancehall too:

"In 2005, Jamaica had 1,674 murders for a murder rate of 58 per 100,000 people.[5] That year, Jamaica had the highest murder rate in the world.[2] In November 2008, the Jamaican Parliament voted to retain the death penalty, which is performed by hanging.[6]

Jamaica recorded 1,680 murders in 2009.[7] In 2010, there were 1,428. In 2011, 1,125. 2012 saw 1,097; 2013 1,200. 2014 totaled 1,192; 2015 1,450; 2016 1,350 and 2017, 1,616.[8] 1,287 murders were reported in 2018.[9]"

When I entered a university in another city, I became anxious. Because of this, I had no friends and there were also problems with my study. On one site, I found many effective ways to help me overcome anxiety ( online pharmacy if anyone is interested). I began to distinguish serious problems from simple little things, to understand that some things and actions I can`t change. And it's very cool, now I feel confident. If you also have anxiety, I advise you to read and find ways to prevent it.

The Return of The Great God Pan.

The music characteristic of the age of anxiety isn't anxious music it's anti anxiety medication music.

It does concern me that all our canaries in the coal mine are drugged to the eyeballs and oblivious to the gas.

The dam of repression is certain to burst sooner or later and give way to mass hysteria, terror and the return of The Great God Pan.

This whole mini era is defined by a state of denial.

Do you suffer from anxiety? What is it like? What are the effects? What do you do to mitigate them?

Epic op

Makes me wonder (I'll be shot down for this but it's a sort of thought experiment) if, in the comparatively safe and dull West, anxiety is being generated in lieu of excitement.

24/7 entertainment in theory should mean 0 boredom. But in practice perhaps it means a different sort of boredom.

Again I'm having that experience of thinking "wow, I was really onto something way back there in... January?!"

Maybe all this weed has obliterated my memory, or maybe I just talk so much shit on here that it all gets lost in the mix.

It came up in that blog Vim posted the other day too,

We know that human cognition is largely heuristic, and as such dependent upon cognitive ecologies. We know that the technological transformation of those ecologies generates what Pinker calls ‘bugs,’ heuristic miscues due to deformations in ancestral correlative backgrounds. In ancestral times, our exposure to threat-cuing stimuli possessed a reliable relationship to actual threats. Not so now thanks to things like the nightly news, generating (via, Pinker suggests, the availability heuristic (42)) exaggerated estimations of threat.

The toll of scientific progress, in other words, is cognitive ecological degradation. So far that degradation has left the problem-solving capacities of intentional cognition largely intact: the very complexity of the systems requiring intentional cognition has hitherto rendered cognition largely impervious to scientific renovation. Throughout the course of revolutionizing our environments, we have remained a blind-spot, the last corner of nature where traditional speculation dares contradict the determinations of science.

This is changing.

I refuse to read anything written in prose like that. It's a cancellation offence. It's really just the garbled language of business schools broke free of the reservation.

You're eyes go out of focus when you try to read it. That's when you know you're being tricked, hypnotised, or hoodwinked in some way. Someone is trying to put something over on you

One is tempted to wonder how much of contemporary anxiety could be better understood as wiping out in uncertainty, rather than surfing it.

Minds are predictive machines, and anxiety is a predictive disorder, all frayed anticipation.

Sounds bollocks, cortisol reduction is no small thing, yet if you compare oxytocin’s physiological effects you can see the similarities and differences

Probably pointless if you love caffeine and nicotine
