Depends what the costs are. We could eliminate car accidents by establishing a 5mph speed limit but I don't think people would go for it.
That's not what I said though is it. I said fewer cases is a good thing, same as fewer car accidents, I'm not saying it is the be all and end all but I'm simply stating that clear fact which you seem to be unsure of.

If the cases are overwhelmingly mild, it's not that bad a thing: it's a sign that the virus is moving between the rump of not-as-susceptible on the way to petering out.

If they are ALL mild. If any percentage of them are serious then increasing the number will increase the number of serious cases. Are you suggesting that there are no serious cases any more?

In the US seems they are back up above 1k deaths a day now. It's hardly an insignificant number who are getting seriously ill.

An Israeli study came out this week estimating the cost of saving a death through lockdown at $45,000,000 - an immoral reallocation of funds which obviously deprives others of vital support.

Imagine spending that on basic medical supplies for the developing world: could save 100,000s more lives for each Israeli life saved.

I'm not saying they didn't say it. Just sceptical of the result. The number of lives saved is a very hard thing to calculate with accuracy, the money lost is also not a perfect sum (though obviously less counterfactual).

I find it strange that you are unwilling to accept measurements of what HAS happened as accurate, but you're willing to quote extrapolations of what MIGHT happen or MIGHT HAVE happened as convincing.

Mate who went through the entirety of spring’s apocalypse working in ICU, who I went tripping with for the first time in decades over the summer, is now in ICU as a patient.

Fuck off 2020. Seriously. Can’t even fucking visit.

Hope he gets through it ok. We still self-isolating after two of our friends tested positive, they seem to be ok though - just general flu symptoms and lack of smell.

Bugger. Sorry to hear that, and sincerely hope he pulls through.

It’s the way there’s been no real rotation of frontline specialists because of shortages in frontline specialists. Plan? Even the military rotates deployments from burn out and trauma. So the NHS staff get thrown into the gyre, relentlessly, even if there was some hint of a breather midsummer.

There’s no sign of govt ‘policy‘ going on a war footing. RooseveltIan actions were cited. Yeah right you Etonian cunt, you utter disgrace of a human being. So people who’ve put their lives on the line get dosed with huge viral loads until an opening chance cracks and someone you look up to for sheer balls and out and out guts ends up on a ventilator.

There are always opportunities in crises but this shower of shite will squander it, hanging on herd immunity abstractions, about a disease that has serious long term post-infection complications and which shows no sign of burning itself out.

Boils my fucking piss. Apologies, had to vent.

Between this and all the people being reinfected, I'd say that "herd immunity" is looking a lot like this year's Flat Earth.
