One of the things I find amusing here is that this "dog" is moving slowly through the already empty urban landscape, telling presumably nobody that they shouldn't even be there.

Amazon will block and flag employee posts on a planned internal messaging app that contain keywords pertaining to labor unions, according to internal company documents reviewed by The Intercept. An automatic word monitor would also block a variety of terms that could represent potential critiques of Amazon’s working conditions...

The thing sounds fucking grim anyway. They want an internal social media platform which only allows workers to interact one on one and which encourages them to be more productive by giving them virtual rewards for things which add "direct business value".

They've also pulled the trick of buying up competitors whilst maintaining the original brand, so you may be buying from them even when you think you aren't, e.g. AbeBooks and The Book Depository.

I know I've mentioned this a few times already, but they also used a disability rights advocacy group as a lobbying trojan horse, to push a pro-Alexa agenda against a data-privacy-oriented civil liberties group. That is, they supported the litigating line of reasoning that Alexa was good for people with disabilities, presumably because data collection is so integral to optimizing their products and services.

an amazing and terrible company, a textbook example of how exploit workers. but convenience and price are such strong motivating factors that most people don't care, they'll just continue to buy from amazon regardless of their employee policies.
i think being able to use amazon for buy stuff is, to a minor extent, lifechanging. the service itself is kind of incredible. in terms of being able to get more or less anything in the world delivered very quickly to your house, and that normally this is also the place where the price is lowest.

the costs to everyone except the service user and amazon itself are high though of course

Alexa can definitely operate a hoist

yeah, that's what I meant by saying they are both amazing and terrible. even the fact that they have their own delivery service, that seemed utterly ridiculous when they first talked about it -- why would you take on all the infrastructure, how would they possibly pull it off? -- yet today it's entirely normal.

Of all the gan blasts that floated out of text/image generators binged on, courtesy of free links a few good folks linked up elsewhere here, this thread title threw up a favourite

It has the suggestion of a mask or machine god and another double slot pattern to the right (the king in yellow), plus forms hinting at heavy cal fire power and enough shadowy hues to keep you guessing

Lastly, is that a possible sun splitting the horizon or did I take too much acid as a youth?

Evil but also pretty clever: cops in Santa Ana, CA playing Disney music to ensure any citizen-posted videos will be removed from social media for copyright infringement.

Maybe not the appropriate thread but couldn't be bothered to search for a better one.

Brilliant idea. And its fascinating that law enforcement actors would be the ones having to find the loose screws in the machine.

Overdub your cute family photos with Slayer's 'Raining Blood' before uploading them. Problem solved!
