I've started reading the Tetlock book. On the face of it, there does appear to be something to it - political forecasting has been almost entirely voodoo so why not try to do something better? But of course, how such forecasting is used is obviously crucial....hypotheses are themselves not formed particularly rationally. But I do like the idea of moving the conversation forward from pseudo-Austrian economics which is still a significant driver in right-wing thought (Javid is a Randian, as is Liz Truss).
There’s a tendency to think everything these manipulators do is clever calculation, I think the choice to wear casual clothes might be part of that, but the stylistic choices are the things he thought were cool at 28
I thank my lucky stars we don't have someone like that in the trump White House. most everyone there is either a self-concerned grifter or only moderately competent (or both), we'd be in much deeper shit if someone shamelessly cunning (instead of just shameless) were there. thought about this yesterday: can you imagine if trump had dick Cheney as his VP?
