Worst songs you've ever heard?

Corpsey

bandz ahoy
There's some grotesque songs I hear the buskers do but luckily I can't remember any of them.

And does anyone remember an English earnest disgusting pop song about something like you'll be a man one day my son or something like thT fucking hell thT was rank horrible dogshit

Re: Buskers - one of the reasons I hate 'Imagine' is that it's the song that people invariably play on those 'public pianos' you get at places like Kings Cross.

Blasting it out earnestly.

I've lived in both places. Auckland the music scene is sweet, gentle, bland. Polynesians making soft edged dub inspired muzak to sit on the grass and smoke weed to.

Australia I don't think had a music scene. I didn't notice one anyway.

Music was pretty central to life in Auckland and completely peripheral to life in Sydney.

i've never met an australian in my life that wasn't a stereotype. it's such a weird country. completely made up.

They’re all actors mate. It’s terrifying. Melbourne is good for food and music but nobody is actually there, it’s not actually happening

And it’s all The Brits fault, The Brits and their social experiments. I tried to have this argument on the cringeworthy thread but nobody was up for it

This nails something I’ve felt about australia for a while. There seems to be something missing... a collective amnesia, an emptiness, and a rootlessness which was created. And it was created because this is a civilisation who want to forget genocide

In terms of the cultural cringe I think americans have a lot of it. They’re always renouncing their own culture. The woke ones especially.

I think the amnesia of a lot of you english cunts about your imperialist past is about avoiding cultural cringe too.

FBPE have it about brexiteers.

It’s described as an inferiority complex (my culture is below others) but it’s also superiority complex (i’m above my own culture). And this is very tied to class too isn’t it, chavs, the demonisation of the working class.

You could argue that Joyce had cultural cringe about Ireland, in fact this was his muse, a shame and disgust that propelled him beyond all english writers.

I can have cultural cringe about plenty of northern irish culture

I’d like to argue that the reason life is cringeworthy is The Brits

I wanted to join in but I couldn't think of anything because I was in full agreement. All the English speaking ex colonies have a bit of that thing going on. It's our true legacy

I was going to reply to that but never got round to it. Thanks for the reminder.

Everything Australians do is a sideshow to take their and our minds off the elephant in the room. Same with politeness for English people
