If all music is sperm, can non sperm producing organisms make music?

egg producing ones can when merging with the sperm, but that doesn't fit into luke's baked beans fantasy.

yes i just went back on what i said, but you ruined the polemic.

Also they should get love just for all the long mixes they put out. I prefer these to their recent productions. They wanna share the gold they have found.

This. Their archive of mixes is a trove of finds & spending an extended period of time in that universe through this route has been my main access point over the years. Thanks for illuminating that point. They clearly have good ears & you’ve articulated this more succinctly than I managed, ta.

Used to love plaid, they had an album called rest proof clockwork I think, that I used to cane. But yeah, they dropped off really

corpsey has private school taste though, like those new boys in grime called Theodore or whatever.

nothing too blatantly saccharine like happy hardcore, and nothing way out there. the middlebrow millennial.

We just have to accept him lads, we can have an adorable degenerate in our ranks. I'd rather he waxed lyrical about cigars so we could have many decadent evenings smoking, but alas...

I just don't see what everyone's so excited about with Autechre. I wish I could, tbh, cos people are frothing in the comments section. I don't think there's nothing there to admire, I'm sure there is but to my ears -

they've simply "evolved" from one form of banality to another. They don't sound radical to me, they sound old hat. They sound like the dictionary definition of WIRE music. Their bloodless, milky synths in a minor chord never change. Their habit of making every tune at least 5 minutes too long (or 15) never changes. Burrowing away at the same loop for 20 minutes, like somebody tonguing a rotten tooth. What's to like? It's lost on me.

I was never a fan of "live sets" by techno ppl either. Twiddling away on knobs for hours, theoretically fascinating.

Aphex is a genius IMO. These guys are plodders.

But that's just to my ears. Maybe it was all that public schooling I had at my comprehensive school?

BTW I much prefer reading Third's posts about Autechre to listening to them. It's a horrible disappointment when I actually listen to their dreary music.

also uk funky was the most conservative uneventful banal dissensus approved music taking what was good about garage (todd edwards meets timbaland) and chucking it in the bin, only for a bad copy of xerox ibiza house. can't believe so many people fell for it just because of crazy cousinz bongo jam, finally the goldsmiths approved multicultural music i can write about with overt nods to a 'basic conception of Africa.' But we not ready to have that discussion yet.

idk, as i mentioned somewhere else, there's a weird dynamic where aspects of electronic music that people tolerate or even celebrate elsewhere suddenly become intolerable offenses when they appear in autechre's music. isn't a lot of music we like based around exploring loops for a long time? e.g. joey beltram, phuture, basic channel?
