I like fantasising about having a skill of some sort (I never bother to work out what the skill is) which means I can visit offices of major international corporations, press a few buttons and get paid 250 thousand pounds for my 5 minutes of 'trouble'. Ah fuck it, a MILLION pounds. Ah fuck it, 10 MILLION POUNDS!

The key thing is that I make loads of money with absolutely no effort and I get loads of respect too cos I'm the only one who can do this thing, whatever it is.

thats one of the hilarious things about fantasies, they're so low effort. totally pathetic as imaginary constructs. just like, im the greatest, all the girls love me, also im mega rich. the end.

I'd be quite interested to know what women fantasise about. Presumably not saving drowning women, punching a hooligan's lights out, discovering the cure for cancer in a room full of impressionable horny women, etc...

I wonder what Craner was fantasising about after that yob laughed at his pretentious book?

This is the sort of thing which would launch me into a 30 minute long revenge reverie.

My face flushed with shame and indignation, walking around the train station blindly, imagining the things I would have done if I were a heavyweight boxing champion and he'd laughed at me.

a death in the family and everybody feels sorry for me. i think it's absolutely disturbing and i have to actively tell myself to stop thinking like that. maybe it's some weird craving for attention? i also have normal fantasies though, to think i'm participating in the tour de france while i'm on my bike (and winning of course) and kidnapping my boss.

When I was 17 or 18 I would have endless maudlin fantasies about knocking myself off and everybody feeling really bad about it, especially the girl I was unrequitedly (and completely invisibly/anonymously) obsessed with. WHY DIDN'T I REALISE HE WAS THE WORLD'S GREATEST MAN?

That weird adolescent thing of being comforted and thrilled by misery—it would get me through hours stacking shelves.

corpsey showing up in the studio in the final recording days of a big album. everybody goes quiet, corpsey listens, doesn't move a muscle to the beat. song ends, few seconds of quiet. he utters a dissapproving but cryptic aphorism, assistants anxiously jot it down in notebooks. producer show a slight smile of awe under the dissappointment, that son of a bitch has done it again, all right folks, you heard him, back to the drawing board!

i remember as a child, walking through stratford shopping centre, it was always busy, and id imagine i was some kind of 'crowd-weaving champion' and i'd have a commentary running admiring my work as I wove through the crowds at a frantic pace.

YES! YES!

(BTW I read an article about Rick Rubin yesterday and this seems to be essentially what he does.)

the Truman Show fantasy was something which was always with me as a child, obviously before the show was made. also magical thinking like, if i say the team i want to win has lost they'll definitely win.

I pushed big rows of them around on the job, got really good at going around tricky spaces, it was like a race car going around corners perfectly

Yeah that's tapped into some long-forgotten mindset that I had too.

On long car journeys (or any car journeys, probably) I'd imagine that we were in a race with all the other cars.

This is the thing about the internet destroying boredom - the imagination is presumably withering away.
