He's gone completely native with that. Stoop isn't one of those words such as pavement/sidewalk where you can choose the English or US way, "stoop" is more like one of those mysterious foreign words such as saudade in Portuguese which (they claim) simply cannot be rendered into English satisfactorily as it describes a concept so fundamentally Portuguese that no translation into English could ever be more than a crude approximation. Dropping such a word so casually and effortlessly into conversation means that your very soul must now be fully American to its core.

your alowed to be mean to jack its wehat the forum is based on. glutton for punishment. he absolutely loves it.
Well maybe so, but I'm relieved that - judging by his choice of emoticons in responding - @Corpsey chose to take that in good part and laugh at it. I am trying to make an effort to not be unnecessarily mean to people on the internet and avoid arguments etc so I'm glad that that one was officially not cruel.

in the UK those are "steps" or maybe a porch, but it's definitely a word for bad posture
they're not the same though, houses in the UK don't have big steps leading up to them like that, or maybe occaisionally but hardly ever. and you can't just hang out on some random steps in front of someone's house in the UK. it's a stoop, it's a whole thing.

when I lived in a ground floor flat I hung out on the, admittedly, one step in front..

although if it was some random dudes sitting on my step and hanging out I would have either shoo-ed them away or, more likely, cowered in fear inside

point taken though...

i don't know what that's from but i did used to live in a house like that, didn't have many mates when i lived there but we did do exactly this a couple of times when i got some. one thing i'm still not about is how acceptable it is to sit on someone else's stoop. my friend from maspeth insists that its totally fine and to be fair i had no problem with it when i came home and there were random people sat on my one, but i'm still not sure. @suspended and @linebaugh will probably come in and tell me that i have to tip, i am still paying the barista tax that they've imposed on me through shame.

such a realistic brooklyn picture that. of the gentrified parts obviously. that's exactly what people in greenpoint look like now, same clothes and haircuts. nice glasses. everyone basically fine and content. little dogs. nice glassware. bit of lemon in the g&t.
