I think Ariel Pink was unearthed because of this sound. Animal Collective, who originally signed him, maybe.

Before Today was 2010, probably when most people first heard him. Though I didn't hear anyone I knew talk about/play Ariel Pink in person until I was in college. I was in highschool at peak popularity of this sound.

Post punk revival was right around this time too. Its the 80's nostalgia we were on about in that other thread. You could call New Order patient zero.

fwiw it think the two songs i posted at the top of the thread are a million times better than any Dean Blunt song.
