yet, that's still all about yourself: trump et al aren't going beyond themselves to help others, they are doing things to sway others for the end result and sole purpose of benefiting themselves.

Of course, I just mean going beyond your personal preference, what would work for you, your own tastes. it’s mostly conflated with compassion but empathy can serve any purpose. what’s clever about digitally powered right wing populism, it understands prejudices and emotional states, knowledge gaps, fears... and exploits

Where's the pulse currently? Who has their finger on it?

Speaking from the US, perhaps the reactionary left has identified something: the return, from the cultural, to the economic. But then again, that is arguably behind the curve. Can we take Trump as the zero point? That is, anyone who foresaw the alienation of the working class from the left, before the Trump zero point, was ahead of the curve, while many of us are only now catching on. Maybe the Trump inauguration officializes it, for whatever that would be worth.

And yeah I'd fall in line with @shiels here - our pulse-feeling capabilities are becoming increasingly limited given the expanding scope of things (increasing information density of matter? Think about how the matter on our planet, as far as we know, exponentially dwarves matter elsewhere in terms of complexity. Moore's law, from what I gather, is a clear enough mapping of this. Our wetware can only get us so far, can't it? While should cosmic order stop with us?). Don't wanna assert things that cannot be backed up, so most of this is purely speculative.

Maybe I'm indulging accelerationism too much here, but I can't see a future where capital doesn't remain the golden child. If not it, then something even purer - although I can't even imagine what that would be, seeing as capital itself subsumes it's own infinity point. It seems to be an essential distillation of the sort of development, most broadly, that cosmic order has undergone. Again, by sipping the koolaid, I run the risk of addiction - but where else do we have to turn?

But to the point, can we even feel the pulse of something of another species, another kind? Perhaps human/cultural pulses aren't the important ones - perhaps they are spandrels at this point, secondary to a more essential development.
