When this bass walks in, it’s borderline obscene

Made an account to post this one as well:

the other Critical Rhythm release on NuGroove. basically a re-edit of fall into a trance but with Reese bass and a seriously great trance breakdown.

And it's got a dancehall track on the flip! AND the catalog number is NG-069!! Seriously some sort of cosmic alignment with this one.

A seriously bizarre and wonderful era of Nu Groove, and something that has gotten glossed over with all the Burrell Brothers "real" "deep" house reissue campaigns. I knew there was the "real" "deep" house stuff for the "heads", and I also knew about really aggro storm rave stuff, but had no idea about this stuff in the middle.

ever so slightly at variance with the nuumological aspects of this thread - but the disco angle is cool too

lots of indie/pitchfork banging on about arthur russell - but the underground dance music of this era (love for strictly rhythm in short supply) was the actual point of continuity to his music

underground solution "luv dancin'"

"is it all over my face"

todd terry "bango"

go bang #5

Sure, Todd Terry had releases on Sleeping Bag records too, didn't he?

It's got no muscle to it. No drive forward. Disgusting music in my opinion. That's why rave saves it. That's why this thread is brilliant and the deep house thread is the worst thing to ever happen to dissensus. (Thanks a lot Barty!)

Ha ha! Well, we can let Matthew off (Bango needed posting here) but yeah, I did say keep it ravey in the OP - no more disco tunes in this thread please 🤚

I hate disco.
you'll cling to your position - i wouldn't expect anything else - but disco was the nuum of its day. nasty, filthy, bastardised drug music. no connection to deep house at all which was always gentrified.

it's the accrreted representations of disco you despise. but don't ask me to point you to anything because its one of those things that has had its sonic extremism so eclipsed in the intervening years that it's not appreciable in those terms. dated yes.

suffice to say that the music box and the warehouse were discos.

My actual position is more centrist dad here tbh but as a rhetorical position I'm anti disco. Funny how people characterise anti disco movement as a totally white phenomenon and forget how militant the anti disco sentiment was amongst black musicians of the time, George Clinton most prominently
