@suspended...from last night's SNL Weekend Update:

"Some military experts have been surprised that despite having superior firepower, the Russian army has been slowed by aging equipment, poor motivation and inept leadership. So basically they’re the Lakers."

they were coached by my father who was wise enough to understand that you shouldnt waste time teaching 12 year olds a jumpshot and instead have them sprint all practice so you can run full court press the entire game. On one occasion we made the other team cry the strategy was so frustrating.
This is the kind of thinking that held back English football for years. Picking the strongest, fastest players at under 16 and thrashing small Dutch teams who are being taught all that technical stuff. Unfortunately by the time they are 21 the Dutch have caught up physically and the English are technically way behind.

Not a criticism of your Dad's reasoning at all. Short-termism is fine for normal individuals with other stuff in their life but who want to play the game for fun and win now - it's only a problem as a strategy for developing the basis of an international side whose most important games will hopefully be ten years in the future. I get the impression that after decades of people moaning about this, it has finally started to change... certainly there suddenly seem to be lots of really talented young English players and the team as a whole looks better than it has through my life... the future also looks promising.

no ref could stop the Celtics, although that highly questionable sixth foul on Jason Tatum might have been an attempt.

KD and Crybaby Irving go down in flames, swept 4-0. life is good.

What game is on? Can you explain the significance, the favourites, the goodies and baddies etc
its game 7 of a best of seven series. Winner advances to the conference finals, which is just before the grand finals. Suns are the best team in the league and massive favorites with probably the 2nd through 5th ranked players if we were to compare across rosters. They are led by Chris paul, maybe the most annoying on court star of the last 20 years, and Devin Booker, a pretty boy millionaire from elite basketball university duke just seen having a rare moment of pda kissing his kardashian girlfriend at basketball game

Other side are the mavericks, rag tag group of loveable scamps whose roster consists mostly of undrafted or second round picks orbiting transcendent 23 year old superstar Luka Doncic straight out of the remotest village in Slovenia. He loves basketball, his momma, video games, and apparently pasta
