I've seen quite a few videos like that Alkaline one, where they'll just kidnap someone, tie them to a chair and mock and torture them for the duration of the song, then just shoot or hang them at the end. Not sure exactly when this trend developed but it definitely seems to have gone beyond anything I've seen previously in rap and dancehall videos in terms of gratuitous violence. One I saw, can't remember which, they actually chop some guy into pieces.

Sometimes you're just like, what the fuck have I just watched?
I had no idea this was a trend. Christ.

I usually open videos in a tab and then do something else, so I often miss how horrific they are. I really pissed someone off once telling them to watch a Sikka Rymes video I'd not viewed myself that turned out to be a couple minutes of graphic torture

Think I've seen that and an even worse one by him where they just execute about 5 or 6 guys they've got tied to chairs one by one.

Sikk bastard.

Should have been this year's style a style riddim with that exotic pungi thing it's got, but none of the newer big names jumped on it, unfortunately.
That is a bit surprising. It sounds built for multiple versions, and surely Stadic has the connections. Not sure you could improve on Vaccine for classic dancehall zeitgeist capture though

Thanks for "pungi" btw. I had no idea what to call that sound

Snake charming flute - no idea if it actually is a real pungi or not in the song but it could be.

In Neon Screams he compares the autotuned voices in dancehall to a pungi, that's where I first heard the word.

Love that first line in Skeng's Gunman Shift.

Intellectual: Murdah People Edition...

Sounds like the name of some kind of twisted boardgame or something.

flow on this is mad
fucking hate that rap shit

Skillibeng has had quite a strange year where he's been swinging drastically between these technical rappity rap double time flows, and then stoned, pornsick rambly freestyles where he just repeats one word over and over and calls it a chorus. He's probably at his best when he's somewhere in between these two extremes.
