Boston's district with all the x-rated movie theaters and sex shops used to be was called the Combat Zone. Not even a nickname, that was the city's official designation.

NYC also has Sheepshead Bay (sounds like an unreleased Stones album) and Ozone Park.

California's fun because it's all Spanish, all these friar and monk and conquistador names. Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, San Rafael, Anza Borrego, Los Altos, Paso Robles.

MidAtlantic/New England zone can be boring with names because it's all just New this, New that. New Haven, New Amsterdam, Newport, New Rochelle, New Jersey.

But then sometimes you get Iroquois names mixed in, that's always great. Adirondack, Montauk, Manhattan, Niagara, Poughkeepsie.

Lots of towns in New England, particularly Massachusetts, are namesakes for places in (old) England: somerset, Swansea, Brighton, Taunton, Manchester, Coventry, etc
