Yeah I don't watch many video essays actually, mainly lectures and seminars and panels. But those neoliberalism ones are great, they break down the whole development from classical liberal economics to embedded liberalism to neoliberalism, and the geopolitical events that map onto this development.

The biggest hurdle with this stuff for me is the presentation and personality. I can't stand the YouTube aesthetic, the exaggerated thumbnails, the awful titles, the annoying voices. It's also just another way of avoiding reading a book.

Less intensive, yes, but the good stuff ought to save you time otherwise spent "engaging with the text."

Insight-per-minute this stuff is more potent than the text which it summarizes, again provided its good. Just depends on how intensive you need the insight to be. At certain depths this secondary stuff likely won't cut it.
