It's a bit of a lottery from year to year, but the Aldi stuff can be really good. They tend to get stuff that major distilleries don't want to sell under their own name because price points and supply and demand and stuff, so in a good year you're basically getting something like Laphroaig for about half the usual price.

I've been drinking more single malt since we've had the baby, it's quite nice for a nightcap when you don't really want to spend the whole evening on the sauce but would like something a bit indulgent. Also experimenting with American whisky but not getting into it so much - Bourbon just seems massively over-sweet to me.

Lagavulin is my go-to - just the regular 16 year old bottling, though it's getting more expensive every year. I also like Highland Park (the supermarket bottle with no age statement is very drinkable). On the less abrasive side, Macallan is great.

A couple of years ago my brother in law bought a £300 bottle of Ardbeg and drank it with diet coke just to annoy me. Rich in-laws, eh?

I can't keep drinking so much beer.

And yes I'm turning into an alcoholic.

Cos me and luke did this karma swap thing he said it would be good for me and I believed him. Woops was there and he agreed.
Have you tried meditating? Like dedicated, idle meditating?

I wouldn't disagree, especially on the food front. I'm more about ingesting nutrients than I am about savoring tastes. Alcohol, on the other hand, I am more susceptible to.

But it may minimize the desire to be drunk in the first place, and any post-hoc justification thereof.
given catalog has only recently put an end to about 9 years of strict teetolatarianism he probably knows what hes doing on this front

You may have bugged him, luke. And it may be that his only solace lies in the transcendence of the sensory realm.

you cant be high all the time, you cant be sensible all the time, you cant feel good all the time, you can't be enlightened all the time.
you have to fill in and colour code sections of your timetable for fucking up, losing your way, losing your soul, losing your friends,
despair, self-loathing, anxiety etc. it's part of the process.

The point isn't to be enlightened all the time, the point is to constantly be making progress, to be pushing into finer orders of magnitude.

its always forgetting and remembering, forgetting and remembering, its not a straight line of progress towards a final state, but we've talked about this before
