Silly-but-good-electro-pop one hit wonder singles

Great bit of electro history - Factory Records went bananas when they heard Divine's "Love Reaction" and sent Bobby Orlando a legal notice. Which Bobby O clearly threw in the bin, because he then produced the song below. Think what I love about this so much is how he tried to throw the lawyers off the scent by pitch-bending the synth choir 'aaahhh's a bit 😀 Would have loved to have seen the judge's face when Bobby O mounted his defence, but, AFAIK, Factory blew its potential legal fees on making the Blue Monday 12" as cheap as possible anyway, so it never went to court.

Didn't Bobby O produce the original version of West End Girls too?

It's amazing but I will say that I had seen nothing like Hard To Be A God and then I saw that and realised he had made another film in that same style which somehow diminished its uniqueness.

I think this ticks a few of the boxes
- silly
- electro drums
- name of song is also name of band, ensuring special one-hit wonder status
- good

doesnt quite fit but the search suggests its not been posted on dissensus before. its silly enough, possibly just electro enough, although he did record a few other singles. but its an incredible song with an unbelievable video, proof that you can be anything you want in life if you put your mind to it. a lad from the scottish borders who befriended bernie worrell and roger troutman and recorded a handful of highland space funk gems before embarking on a career in local scottish politics

Nuts. Do you know anything about this tune?
He was a Polish blues rock guy and had a couple of new wave hits, but for this album he shifted to the winning 808/303 combo. Think this song is a poetic exposition of the 'fate of the centipede' but my Duolingo Polish only gets me so far

Fate of the centipede? That sounds like a fairly unexpected phrase for Duolingo to have covered so I guess you must have gone quite deeplpy into that app. Anyway, I got rather distracted this afternoon but when I get up I will go back through the thread and check out all the fascinating looking stuff which i don't already know, before leaving a no doubt inane comment.

Does this count as a 1HW? I know they did quite a lot of other stuff but surely none of it is anything like as well known as this tune:

Definitely counts as silly-but-good. As an aside, I've only just noticed how much the singer looks like a young Rik Mayall. (In b4 Rich says "But she looks nothing like him!"...)

I meant it wasn't really the thing I was after in this thread... as for the 1hw thing, yeah, like you, I thought they had several hits but right now I'm suddenly drawing a blank on what they were.

You mean stuff that's more explicitly danceable? Hmm. Did Dead Or Alive ever do anything other than, uh, the obvious one?

Oh what about this classic, I love it. I was at that crap Belgian festival dour and all the bands were shit I was in the damp site doing speed with English people who lived in Belgium and had a little tape psalter they just wanted this one rewound and rewound.

It was a brilliant tape that, it had this baby Ford track at the end, some young marble giants. Lost it of course.
