if it's stuff that pumps you up with tension and no release @suspended then look no further
none of the verse are particularly good but that's not what made Dipset as popular as they were

This is sorta like the Black Keys rendition

Way inferior because it doesn't come with the feeling of "emptiness"

It's the "empty + powerful, confident + sad" combo that makes Mount Everest affective/effective
These descriptions are great but I don't get anything like that from the songs you're attaching them to. I haven't listened to all of them yet... I'm out now but perhaps if I work through them all I will find in one of them the key that unlocks it for me... perhaps.

This is my main stumbling block. I hear monotony, a lack of emotion, too much of an intellectual exercise with no modus operandi.

It's not that Gus' music angers me, I'm just utterly mystified by it. I'd rather listen to drilling sounds on youtube for 10 hours.

Not a Hozier fan but this is related—it's the vanilla Christian sober straightedge Macklemore version

this is the powerless version of it (it's like watching a pegging video where clearly the woman has no idea how to top)

Yeah so "Mt Everest" is like this song if Tears For Fears was super depressed and on a ton of xanax in addition to the cocaine. That's the vibe

Isn't that just mad world? Also xanax is highly regulated here in the UK, not like Turkey where you can get it off the counter. Although having said that its popular with dark web students.

I think the Turkish case is closer to US in that regard.

anyway

No, it's close, but "Mad World" lacks the cocaine. Very important. The final ingredient. Notice the lack of missing hyper-ego/masculinity in "Mad World."

this is about a gessaffelstein of indie rock
not enough powder and confidence in the vocals though, it's like they produced it over the night and tried to record the voice the day after

I think the only good thing that came out of this all (well, it didn't come out of it directly, but rather a lot of parallels could be drawn) is probably the hard drum music that had its uk warehouse moment in london (oh well) and shanghai, too, probably, I don't think svbkvlt do that stuff anymore as much but I recall a djette friend showing me an eli osheyack tune and saying how much she likes the sound design on it.

what is interesting though is it cannot be plain and crisp electronics, you need a bit of brass or sampled acoustic drum

third might hate svbkvlt for their recent maqsum jungle release (and I do think they used to be more interesting a few years back, or maybe so much ahead of time) but this captures the atmosphere well imo:

first half of this:

if you've ever been to a club you can clearly tell this is a tense tune but most of it is not exactly danceable (unless you have some contemp dancing skillz, that is, it's one of those moments on the dancefloor surely)
