it can easily be transplanted onto the 8 bar grime soil and with that kind of approach it really reverberates and all of a sudden all those boomy drums every now and then can be tasteful
I'm sure Gus would say that the nervous horizon lot have an all too restrained and tasteful approach to it, what we're looking for is the big boomy drums and melancholic leads of 2017s death of the club

millenials have their equivalent and its that particular kind of melodic techno they play at the afters, you can already feel the one foot in the comedown
Yes you're picking up what I'm putting down, this stuff has as one of its deep roots the orchestral timpani, and then later, tracks like "Be My Baby"

I think this one is too relaxed in a spaced out way, this is not netflix intro music and netflix intro music with hans zimmer influences is what we're talking about here

Well, hans zimmer is the worst thing to happen to film music ever.

Yeah you can imagine that this song is like, her chilling hanging out with her Bs in a convertible, driving around town all casual

"Mount Everest" is not casual music lol. Whatever you think of it, it's on the intense side of the intense-chill spectrum.

Hans Zimmer is actually such a good reference, thank you Wektor, you're really bailing this thread out.

I think the only good thing that came out of this all (well, it didn't come out of it directly, but rather a lot of parallels could be drawn) is probably the hard drum music that had its uk warehouse moment in london (oh well) and shanghai, too, probably, I don't think svbkvlt do that stuff anymore as much but I recall a djette friend showing me an eli osheyack tune and saying how much she likes the sound design on it.

what is interesting though is it cannot be plain and crisp electronics, you need a bit of brass or sampled acoustic drum

third might hate svbkvlt for their recent maqsum jungle release (and I do think they used to be more interesting a few years back, or maybe so much ahead of time) but this captures the atmosphere well imo:

first half of this:

if you've ever been to a club you can clearly tell this is a tense tune but most of it is not exactly danceable (unless you have some contemp dancing skillz, that is, it's one of those moments on the dancefloor surely)

Osheyack bangs, the sado modernism lp in particular. not sure about their most recent stuff though, haven't listened. I like that stuff when its proper mutant electro.

cool and casual are helpful concepts. I don't here intensity in mt everist, I hear agonised attempts to get with da yout.

restraint and poise, even when on the gak. One who wants to be on top of the world who does not understand this is a jack of all trades, master of none.

Not so relevant to the thread really but just a nice bit of synchronicity in that I met this girl out last night who was telling me that she taught contemporary dance and so today I was looking at her dancing videos on Insta (nothing weird, she told me to do that last night I believe), I don't really remember them that well though cos I was too fucked. But I remember thinking although I know or have met few people who studied contemporary dance and I've occasionally been to see the odd thing at the Barbican or whatever, I don't know anything about it as a whole and... well basically, it's probably (off the top of my head) one of if not THE least discussed art form amongst people I know. I guess the one that people are least interested in for some reason.. I guess i could start a thread about that but would anyone even reply....
