Big claim. I mean, up there obviously... top five perhaps, but in real life, if you truly think of it, I just don't think that you can categorically state that there is an actual number one like that. Makes me suspicious of the whole thing if I'm honest.

for me it has to be:

DJ Rider Tech Specs: A Table

Amaazing stuff. I mean, lots of people take all kinds of equipment, ridiculous mixers, all kinds of fx boxes, laptops and noise generating machines etc etc. But a real dj just needs two turntables and a microphone and to be honest the mic is pushing it.

And this guy is next level, he doesn't even need anything. That is real dj-ing, he has got down to the heart of the art. He just fucking beams the tunes straight from his head into the audience and he still takes the roof off. What a guy!

He just needs to make one final step and reach true transcendence. Once he can take away the table and become a magical being of pure music energy then that will be that, he will play the set to end all sets an then ascend into heaven to sit beside Jesus at their father's feet.

def danny rampling, I'm surprised he didn't get knifed in shoom due to his piss poor mixing, the pills must have been that strong in 1988! or maybe trendy south londoners just didn't know.

there's also bad boy t from the hardcore era, but with a name like that there wouldn't be much cop, anyway.

Fuck if you can get knifed for bad mixing then I would be doomed... taking my life in my hands every time I went behind the decks. Mind you I reckon most people would be a little nervous if they thought that those were the stakes.

well, its all dependent on the music you play right. If you are playing stuff that isn't structured for djs, then a degree of bad/sloppy mixing is almost a requisite to make the set sound interesting, liquifraction of the dancefloor.

the problem isn't even bad beat matching it's the inability to line up measures. jeff mills used to clang loads but his tracks were all lined up. in fact a good old clang fest is the most psychedelic feeling on a dancefloor.

For sure, a little bit of rawness is fine I reckon, too much robotic precision can be dull... at least I think I think that or am I excusing myself?

I'm not a natural house dj so I don't mess about with harmonic blends. I'm dissonant by nature, I like the bizarre tonalities in hardcore and mixing discordant techno/industrial.

I can mix house but even then its bound to be vocal free and/or vocally dubbed out, because that makes for great cutting up.

part of the problem with that rampling mix though isn't the sloppy transitions but sloppy transitions married to some of the shittest baitist dance crap from that era. pete tong hurp durp. Rubbish, it really is.
