couldn't agree more the Northen voices timbre/different slang doesn't lend itself to spitting lyrics , Grime will ALWAYS be a marginal scene in the North 'cos of this .Its sad but true( but heartning to see is the HUGE popularity of the Power Electronics revival in the more urban areas.)

well, its certainly different - but i wouldn't go as far as saying it doesn't work.

surely there are other reasons why grime isn't big outside london other than a manc accent.

routemaster mythology in grime

ok so instead of starting a new thread, heres a quick question that popped into my head (apropos of nothing, and not related to any previous discussion here) i just wondered what if any referencing or recognition of Routemaster buses is there in grime. Buses play a part in east london culture anyway as a result of the lack of tube etc. and for example the number 8 bus goes to bow and was a routemaster for a long time. has the idiosyncrasy of using a routemaster found any recognition in grime lyrics as far as anyone knows? In particular, what about the disappearance of routemasters? in fact what bus references are there in general? apart from "bus stop" on the roll deep album obv.

theres a link to the westwood audio on the rwd forums. sway is still bare shit but he can do doubletime flows well. even though dizzee murdered still tippin, id like to hear him on grime beats more than hip hop ones.

there's an old wiley lyric that uses the number 38 as both a bus and gun reference.

AWESOME. what tune, do you remember?

that was my bus for 2 years, I grew pretty fond of it. Are they really dropping it? awful.

I hope the 38 isn't being dropped because its a pretty useful route.

I know they are getting rid of the routemasters on there (its the last routemaster afaik) but they'll just replace them with more up to date buses - can't see them dropping it.

what are the most overtly experimental grime tunes of all time?
(not including Wiley's 'Eskimo (original)' and Dizzee's 'I Luv U').

There was one track on a 12" that had "Muppets" written on it that I loved. It was just a couple of sparse 8 bar beats and an orchestra hit with this enormous distorted bass sound that ran through pretty much the entire track. I'd love a track ID if anyone knows it, it must have been from 2003-04.

I have a version of it on this short 10 min. Cameo clip. Jump to 4 minutes in and you can hear it. Definately one of the more experimental Grime tracks I've heard, and eerily similar to Jammer's new one "Feedback".

the routemasters from route 38 are getting droped, not the route. theey will be the last service routemasters, they are going in october. its gonna be a biggie, i was on the last ever routemaster number 19, and it was rammed. the last ever routemaster, i think they will have to sell tickets or something. but yeah its the 38. will be replaced with something standard, maybe bendy buses

yeah it's the first and last tracks on the young.dot EP which really elevate it to something special. love the odd vocal samples on the second track tho- it's like listening to far-off and mysterious short-wave radio broadcasts.
