so this skepta album is pretty good.
maybe his best album even?
he actually met all expectations.
edit - even the one with ASAP someone doing drake isnt bad.

I'd argue otherwise ofc. Its 'fine', its well-produced and Skepta isn't doing any Ed Hardy Party type mis-steps, but I feel its got enough pseudo-thematic weight with the skits (that Skepta/Chipmunk phone convo is ------______------) to make it seem like its striving for something Skepta's always been too blunt as an MC to hit. Both better than I expected and disappointing at once? The weird remixing of the "It Ain't Safe" beat only made it less satisfying though.

theres only one skit though right? i dont know why that one with chip is on there as it doesnt really fit with much in the lyrics (i also just really, really hate chip - why is he so respected?). which is good actually. cos an album of skepta going into grime-scene-existentialism would be incredibly boring, and not really what anyone into the singles so far would probably care about, esp if theyre new-ish to grime. so i think its pitched just right. i thought it would sound over laboured but it doesnt. it sounds like a proper grime album (if a bit old school grime sounding, though with all the instrumental stuff around these days, i dont know what a '2016 grime' album would sound like really), its lean, its accessible to people who dont know much about the scene, and hard enough for fans who want to hear skepta going hard for 45 mins (give or take a few songs). its pretty much a does (and does it well) what it says on the tin sort of album, which is fine really.

clashing with Yungen and him trying to do sets again plays a big part imo

i think it's also because much like how when Max B got locked up so we ended up with arguably "the best thing" in the form of French Montana

Icekid vanished and Dot Rotten went and did all the dumb shit he did so we were left with him who had 1-2 hits under his belt,i'm not a fan of him either but that's how i see it

this is pretty excellent.
mainly for the beats IMO
lot of energy from novelist and ruff sound, though i find them a bit redundant lyrically.
or maybe im 20 years too old for it lol.

is flava d? how popular is she really? im genuinely interested to know. and if she is more popular, why is that? i know she draws from a wider pool, beats wise, than spooky or grandmixxer, but is she that good a DJ? im not sure.

Flava has been producing extremely prolifically for many years but is relatively recent to djing I think. Like I say, she has definitely improved a lot from when she first got picked up by butterz.
Spooky is obviously a great dj and a decent grime producer, but he seems more in that old skool vinyl nerd tradition. Whereas Flava is superb producing garage, grime and house and is much more 'now' than spooky really.

I don't even know who grandmixxer is tbh.

i get the 'now' thing, but i mean, she just seems a bit of a trendy choice. which fabric does a lot, esp in the FL series, but idk, its a bit premature to me.

i liked her hold on (VIP 3) tune a lot. so will give it a listen. maybe she doesnt deserve my ire. she seems like one of the better producers reheating old styles. she sounds less indie-fied than a lot of nu-grime producers and like shes just making straight down the middle garage stuff. sort of like the production version of dj q in how she crosses all the various strands in her tracks. but i still stand by what i said.
