Halloween Tunes... What Would You Drop In A Halloween Dj Set?

Just curious... got my own halloween blog posts going on already but as a fan of halloween and darker production I was wondering about what's your idea of halloween music?

I like to play dark, downtempo stuff... heavy dub like SPECTRE, MOU, TECHNO ANIMAL, some of FSOL's creepier moments from the ISDN album, stuff like APHEX's NIN remix "at the heart of it all" & "raising the titanic", "deathstar" by ATARI TEENAGE RIOT and there's lots of great hip-hop with very dark vibes... some CO FLOW, APC, GRAVEDIGGAZ, RUBBEROOM, ATOMS FAM & instrumental stuff but I guess I'm a closet goth at heart.

'decompression' by mathew jonson really has the bats and skellingtons mood. A few from 'Scientist rids the world of the evil curse of the vampire' maybe.

"The End" by John Carpenter - sounds like biker-electro-vampyres driving into to town...

Soundtracks to The Fog/The Thing/Halloween/Prince of Darkness/Suspria/Tenebrae/Profundo Rosso... any classic or electronic horror stuff...

and of course - the Monster Mash!

A bit obvious, perhaps, but people go fucking crazy for it: Thriller (The Screamer Cut-Up). The best bits are the syncopated Vincent Price chuckles peppered throughout the track and the sample of the Drew Barrymore phone call from Scream in the break.

And those extra acapella Vincent Price verses from the remastered version of the original LP would make a nice intro as well...

I've been looking for those! So far, Soulseek hasn't been paying off.

Did they press vinyl for the remaster or is it CD only?

Think it might just be CD. Theres a bunch of very interesting outtakes and interviews at the end of it. I picked it up by chance in Spain a few years ago, so it must be fairly readily available...

As would Vincent Price's long intro for Alice Cooper's "Black Widow" (lyrics)
from "Welcome to my Nightmare" (1974 I think),
"Welcome to my Nightmare" itself would
be a nice opener come to think about it and "I love the dead" to end the set?
("I love the dead before they're cold, their bluing flesh for me to hold", the tune is mostly
spoken - Alice is now a Christian according to Johnny Lydon's hour long portrait/interview
on BBC radio a couple of years ago).

Some Cramps, Beefheart or Howlin' Wolf might also be suitable, and maybe Siouxsie's "Halloween"?

---
a couple of more:
Ghostrider/Alan Vega
Diamanda Galas - to make sure people leave when the party is over
there are tracks on "Men in Black"/The Stranglers which are a bit spooky

Sounds great! Ive got some great Price samples from 'the tingler' as well.. mainly a lot of creepy/funny talk about 'The Fear'....

He has to be the number 1 horror voice of all time!

One thing to avoid in this mix - Brian May's scores for the Nightmare on Elm St Series...

Now theyll send some real shivers down your spine!

I did a cheesy 'Halloween Techno Party' mix many many years ago for, well, a Halloween techno party. Can't remember the tracklist in full, but it definitely had the following...

Winx - Don't Laugh (kind of the obvious opener I suppose)
Dave Clarke - The Storm (catching that Thriller vibe)
DBX - Losing Control (catching that actually scary vibe)
Christian Vogel - Bite & Scratch (there was probably a load of German acidy shit, but this is the only memorable one)
Emmanuel Top - Turkish Bazar (in my defense, the Jim Morrison sample is rendered acceptable by the fact that it's too sped up to be recognizable)
