Does anyone know the Miles Davis track "Blue Xmas"? I can't remember the vocalist, but it is GREAT"

"It's the time when the greedy / Lend a hand to the needy / Bluuuuee XMAS/"

I am disgusted that I am reply No. 16 and am the first to say The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping. It is obvious to any right thibking person tha this is the best christmas record ever. As for the Pogues, try living in Ireland and hearing Fairytale of New York about 40 times a day - see how much you like it then.

Merry Christmas

funnily enuff i hate the waitresses song b/c the local rock station growing up would play it constantly all thru december every single year...

Aha, so there is a precedent for Xmas song discussion on this here message board. Anyway, please allow me to revive for the sake of this. I heartily recommend checking out the rest of the album on youtube or otherwise as well.

Folorn Shaka-style steppers!

And the Pogues, of course.

Everyone’s having the time of their lives
Fighting with snowballs, not bottles and knives
Just like a snowman on a sunny day
White power hatred is melting away

Singing a song of holiday cheer
Drinking egg nog instead of beer
To every boy and every girl
Merry Christmas to all…
And happy new year!

Haywire Xmas Show

Can remember Weatherall doing a Xmas show on one of the old now defunct internet radio stations (Pulse?) and I can remember rather fondly a hip hop track he played that was rather lewd, humourous and definitely Xmas themed. Been on the watch out for it ever since but each Xmas season, I've failed to find it...

It's all about the synths in this:

That Saint Etienne track is my personal favourite, saw them doing at their 2003 Xmas show with Edwin Collins singing Tim Burgess's part.

Also really love Just Like Christmas by Low:

Must admit I am very partial to cover versions of trad Xmas songs, especially O Come O Come Emmaneul. I posted a few versions of this last year, including Blyth Power's:

On a reggae tip there's also Merry Christmas, Happy New Year by Lee Scratch Perry and Sandra Robinson:

As I said on the McCartney vs. Collins thread, possibly the first Wonky record ever?
