And Happy Birthday Heatwave, did it go well?

yeah it was big thanks, riko & gods gift smacked it (audio coming soon) and both rooms were rammed for the whole night, really nice vibe as always. unfortunately the soundsystem sounded shit for most of the time and there were massive problems with the mics especially, which detracted from the PA a bit (!), but everyone got over it i think

the venue have agreed to pay for a proper sound engineer as of next month though, so that won't be happening again...

Glad to hear it was busy, u flyered well boss. Tell you having a decent sound engineer makes world of difference, we'd struggled with sound in basement but Friday was much better.

I thought the night was big. The stage control (or lack of) for the mc's was to be expected (this happens at most grime events). Wiley was heavy (that 'Eski Boy' tune is gonna be massive), was also impressed with Flowdan.

Was some strange mc's up there hogging the limelight. One in particular sounded a hell of a lot better on wax than he did live!!!!

Bearman was ok, thought he could hyped the crowd a bit more. Remerdee was in the audience, he should have got up there and mc'd.

Logans set was big, bear exclusives as u would come to expect from him. Shame there wasn't that many people there when he started playing. JME's mixablum sounds big and that Cameron diss to Jay Z is just wrong (but quite amusing).

Well done Chantelle for organising this. Seemed like a good vibe in there with no trouble and there was...wait for it...GIRLS.

yeah, that whole 'performance' would have been better if wiley had actually, you know PERFORMED, the song instead of glaring at the floor near the back of the stage while the track was running.

i went to fabric and it was so so, lethal b was good, i waited till 3am for roll deep to turn up and it was like fucking amateur hour, except it they only played for about 20 minutes. this was the first time i'd seen them, i'd heard they're supposed to be great live, is this really true? and is 20 mins the normal amount of time to expect them to play for?

they seem to be like that all the time, no organisation, no plan on stage, no real momentum, its a complete shambles. which has a sort of endearing appeal of its own but could be so much better if they actually pre-planned a bit (like kano).

333 on Friday was good despite what prancehall and his shower click are saying. I went to the one late last year and this was a big improvement on that.

Ok so it didn’t do what it said on the tin (or flier) and there were some choking wastemen on the stage who cut some of the limelight from some of the real stars, but there were plenty of hype moments and I thought the crowd was pretty good. That said I left before three so things might’ve deteriorated thereafter. Highlights: the crowd filling in Skepta’s bars, Tempa T’s winding body and ‘swing’ bars, Fuda Guy bringing MCs onto the audience’s side of the barrier (when I though we might some grime-styled stage-diving), seeing All in One back in the scene again & Maximum’s set.

Big up Chantelle for putting the whole thing on. It may be a while before grime hones its live ‘product’ but that will come with time (and once mcs put themselves in the shoes of the audience and think about what they might want), but the priority for now is getting these nights ON.

i thought wiley, skepta and flow-dan were excellent at 333. skepta and flow-dan especially gave it everything.
the main problem i had with the night was kronik going on and on- and he seemed to be encouraged by wiley too. he never got any response, so he just should have left it. but that's a minor thing. overall it was great fun.

especially loved the roll deep dj's dropping 'creeper'. long time no see for a MASSIVE tune!

i thought 333 was decent... skepta was spittin war bars in a bowler hat.. what more do you want? seriously though, it will be a proper shame if he doesn't get at least as big as dizzee. he's miles ahead of anyone at the moment etc etc...

also, how fuckin big is chronic? i don't mean lyrically big, i mean like 7 foot tall big. no wonder no-one takes the mic off him.

i'm always going on about fuda guy but c'mon, he is SO HYPE!! i love the way he has a proper crazy fit when someone else spits a bar that he's feelin. also when he went on the skippy flow tip that was mucky. scorcher needed to touch mic more though.. seein him and skepta go 8 bars at a time would be heavy..

kronik is so shit. but yeah, hes massive (like bossman) so no one dares to tell him to his face that he is utter shit. same for the rest of slew dem, they are mostly all crap, but cos kronik seems to front them, no one dares to whisper in their ear the truth (that they are crap). sorry for repeating 'slew dem are crap' so much, but its the truth. they are.

it's true they're almost total shit. kronik doesn't have a single good bar. tempa t has got that "catch him 'round the back of the flats..." lyric which is a reload every time. the only good MC in their crew (esco) seems to have retired from the scene, bar his always hilarious appearences on DVD's...

i can't help feelin we're missing the main point of this night people -- skepta's BOWLER HAT! this surely signals a huge leap forward in the grime scene.

also prancehall was calling out stamina boy but i thought he merked a bit differently.

anyway, i definitely did the best skanking that night so don't try a ting when i'm here. ;)

only the second time I'd seen live grime mc's and did really enjoy wiley, flow-dan, skepta and jammer (though i thought murkle man was overplayed).

wanted to hear more from wiley's second phase - need to hear 'eskiboy' again, but didn't really feel it, the beats seemed too familiar. Didn't think the crowd got into it either, judging by the silence after it was played. Not enough wiley overall.

there were too many waste mc's on stage - all the slew dem crew for example.

^^^ skepta is coming 'cross with big headgear these days. first it was cossack hat. then the sharp "white tee bowler hat" combo. i can only imagine what's next for the scene's leading fashion light. maybe one of these?

what can i say? i had high expectations.

i turned up to see wiley and a meridian reunion set and got skepta (who turns up to every rave anyway) and about 4 bars from wiley.

when i arrived, it was looking good, but there were too many shit MCs hogging the mic all night.

stamina boy and all in one are ok, but they turned up to the previous one, so they brought nothing that i hadn't seen before and they haven't written any new bars in the last 3 years. those guys need to get a day job and concentrate on that.

fuda guy is decent, but he was below par on friday.

just my honest opinion.

just saying it how i see...

SIZZLE

Chronik brings a lot of energy to a set and while I didn't like him when I first heard him his bars have grown on me a lot. ie: Come to your ends and find a man/stick a man to a wall like spider man... Take for example also the recent Roll Deep set where he Jam, Ears and Knuckles showed up. Pure reloads. But if you're wondering why no one takes the mic from him and all these big MCs big him up it's because he and many of the slew dem man are real thugs with real guns as opposed to rappers rapping about guns (like most of your favorite MCs).
