True, but child obesity was much rarer then, so every cloud.

Does anyone use chip fryers anymore? They were obviously enough of a 'kitchen staple' that the fire brigade churned out regular public information films about them, usually with some terrified old granny sobbing behind a fireball.

I think it's ground lamb and peach, by the way.

I fry my chips in beef dripping

For the conjugated linoleic acids

But all my steaks go in the air fryer. 4 minutes both side at 200C. Idiots use air fryers for chips.

Nothing has rolled back grimness more than that chief and most frequently-cited benefit of the magnificent treasure house of nationwide diversity we are quite right to celebrate: the AMAZING food we can enjoy from all over the old dominions.

How ironic that the actual food in many of these countries is shaken out of branded plastic packets and fried in gutter oil over burning polystyrene.

And yet... Obesity a fraction of what it is today
Yeah, martin's already said that. I guess people ate a lot less processed stuff and kids, at least, were a lot more active.

Food today is probably a lot better in some ways and worse in others.

I think there is less casual violence (if you will forgive the pun) but a lot more fatal stabbings in London at least.

There is also an endemic mugging culture because young men carry things that are worth money now (mainly phones but not just).

All the teenagers I knew carried fuck all around with them - maybe a walkman if you were fortunate or a nice bike.
That didn't stop mugging bitd or "drapsing" as it was called for a while which was a great turn of phrase. There was lots of taxing of paint and pens amongst the graf kids.

Yeah true. I have had a few teeth broken or whatever but really they're fine, it's the gums that has the dentist tutting.

I think snacking and sugar's the main issue. Also that stuff about more and more people breathing through their mouths. Saliva helps deal with tooth remineralisation and you never give it chance to if it's having have to contend with wave after wave of food and a dry mouth.

I love this idea that potatoes and cereal are worse than sweeties despite all evidence to the contrary

HMG spurns both and simply tears into still-warm raw flesh - gazelle thigh, for preference - with his preternaturally elongated canines, like the apex predator he is.

You, me, all humans are apex predators, in the blood.

Gazelle are too lean. I'd go for a buffalo or bison, personally.

Would you believe me if I said you will not develop scurvy on an all-meat diet because there's a much reduced requirement for vitamin c on a zero carb diet?

And that fresh meat and organs contain adequate vitamin c?

And that the ability to synthesise vitamin c in humans was sacrificed precisely because we evolved to eat meat?

And that vit c is a much less efficient antioxidant than glutathione, derived from meat? And glutathione is essential for t cell production.

Because all of that is true. Vitamin c is essential in large amounts if you're subsisting on carbs, but not otherwise. Try it!

what? what stuff? noone told me about this. wtff @hmg is this true>??

i read the other day that 85% of people breathe through only one nostril at a time, (though they do switch nostrils every so often), totally plausible? & fascinating if true
