This film is truly terrifying but then I am a big scaredy cat, if you want to get freaked out then watch it late at night on your or with a companion. However what is more terrifying is the real story that the film is based on. This is the case of Ivan Millat and the 'The Backpacker Murders' that took place in Australia in the early ninties. There's loads on it online, check it out it's dark as fuck. Anyone esle seen this film whatdya reckon.

great film, the cinematography was astounding. apparently it was filmed in high definition to pack as much of the bush in as possible - the outback is the real star of the film. amazing that such a wide-open space could be so claustrophobic, seemed to yield no shelter or comfort whatsoever. very impressed.

MINOR PLOT SPOILERS

It's a strange one this film. It's bloody scary, and the photography is brilliant. However it's important to note that it's based on a collection of real events. The bits about there only being one survivor, and the killer never being found, it's a collection of things from different stories. As Eric Morecambe might say, it's all the right facts, but in the wrong order.

Ivan Millett killed quite a few people, yes; there was also one bloke who got a life with him and survived. But there's no case of him killing some people but others in the same group getting away, which is of course the central dynamic of Wolf Creek.

Really, this makes a mockery about it being real life. One can make any story by linking disparate, unconnected facts.

So, I'm kind of undecided. It's scary as fuck, but only half a story really- it ends rather quickly, doesn't it? And perhaps the scaryness is just a result of it's sheer brutality, I don't know how original it is.

i agree with this. i was disapointed when i found it was not based on a specific story (or just one story, at any rate). but then texas chainsaw massacre was the same - based partly on ed gein and a number of other serial killers. my wife still thinks its a true story, a wind up i've maintained for many years now ;)

and yes, it does end somewhat suddendly - the pace is different to the average horror, theres no doubt about it - but i love the fact that horror films that actually scare and are quite heavy in tone are back in fashion, so i'm willing to forgive its minor faults.
