When you first hear about it you go nah, there's nothing to it but the evidence mounts up and you start going, i dunno, this is actually weird I don't care what anyone says

Referring either to as version says the eye atop the pyramid or and
the one eyed man in the kingdom of the blind.

It's ubiquity is striking no matter how you choose to explain it

Well, illuminati is the popular explanation

So then what are these people signalling? Are they showing off their membership of the Illuminati? Or warning the rest of us about them? But in that case, why are they being allowed to do this?

Again it's up to you to find an explanation that suits you but the generally it is thought to signal membership in the illuminati, or ownership by the illuminati

As for why they are allowed it is usually thought to indicate that they are rubbing it in our face. The fact that they are getting bolder is thought to be a bad thing, a sign of overweening confidence. Their goals almost attained so that they fear no pushback

"The omnipresence of the One-Eye sign in mass media also serves another purpose: It proves that all outlets of mass media are owned by a very small, elite group. Indeed, in order to have the same exact sign appear consistently and repeatedly across all media platforms and across the world, there needs to be a centralized source of power that forcibly makes this happen.

Think about the amount of money, power, and influence that is required to have all of these celebrities perform this specific gesture in videos and photoshoots. Now, ponder on the amount money, power, and influence that is required to have this specific sign plastered across magazine covers, movie posters, music videos and anything else that might reach the eyes of the masses."

My explanation is that the "Illuminati" is a paranoid fantasy. But you know I think this. This isn't a fruitful thing for us to talk about so I'm going to leave it there.

Although one thing I will just add is that I don't understand why members of this great world-spanning occult elite are so addicted to leaving signs and symbols everywhere that can apparently be decoded by more or less anyone. A 'secret society' everyone knows about isn't much use, is it?

They leave their symbols everywhere, for example on American currency and in the layout and monuments of Washington DC. Does that make the Freemasons a paranoid fantasy?

Eric Hobsbawn stresses the role the Freemasons and illuminism played in the French Revolution and in the American Revolution and in the wider dissemination of those revolutionary ideas.
