what are some good resources for world music?

specifically, south asian, middle eastern and african music? where on the net do you guys go for tips on whats good and whats not? im not so interested in the modern stuff, im trying to get hold of some older stuff (pakistani drum-based stuff, iraniain sufi, etc).

Sterns' website is worth checking for African sounds - lots of sound samples (often a minute or so from every track on a given cd)

If you want something more comprehensive and discursive, I don't think anyone's come close to the Rough Guide to World Music but the website is pretty useless compared to the books.

smithsonianglobalsound.org has a lot of library recordings for .99c each, and supposedly royalties trickle down to the artists...lots of qawalli and african traditional ive never heard before. possilby more throat singing that one person can handle.

I trust the labels Ocora and Auvidis to release highest quality recordings.

for more strange rare south-asian/afro/mid east pop and unclassifiable grab-bags - Sublime Frequencies is a fun label.
