played at the ridiculously posh Momo but it was full of us lot so OK!
what a gig, just the most amazing sound, tons better than the records, the songs last well over 20mins each.......

how was the sound?

when i saw em here in chicago, the sound guy failed to really utilize their trademark "distorted" sound from the "homemade" speakers.

They had two large, megaphone looking speakers up on stage, which i think was carrying the thumb pianos, but everything was really poorly mixed.

i do know that the venue i saw em at is legendary for poor sound and poor sound engineers.

i wasn't distorted enough for me, but they did they have their megaphones and it was in a tiny venue (low ceilin perfection!) where the acoustic/live thing worked. I can see it all goin wrong though.

Saw them at Brixton Academy last night at the BBC Radio 3 World music awards bash (like Smash Hits Pollwinners Party but for worldy music types). They won best newcomer despite their 30years together (maybe the Rolling Stones will be receiving a similar accolade in Shanghai tonight). Fantastic ten minutes but were encouraged to leave the stage for more banal Radio3 banter and a rubbish DJ. Really frustrating, are they playing anywhere else in London soon?

fuck i got there at 7. my and my friends got a (4.50 pounds!) pint, nursed it for a while. about ten or fifteen minutes after we finished it the owner of the bar came around and gave us shit for not buying more drinks. i didn't bring anymore money nor a bank card so i couldn't. at any rate the dickhead went on this rant being all "i paid for this gig out of my own pocket, this is a member's club, if you're not buying drinks i can't make my money back" and ended up kicking us out! what a cunt, if you're worried about making money back (which i'm sure was bullshit anyway, anyone who was there knows how monied that guy probably is judging by the preponderence of gilded furniture) CHARGE ADMISSION! i think he was just pissed that my and my scruffy crew were taking up valuable space that could have otherwise been occupied by his 80 person VIP list. reading these good reviews makes me even more sore about getting turfed

Yeah, he should either put on a free show or not. And possibly not charge £4.50 for a small bottle of (American) Budweiser. Not many people were drinking later either bcz it was too crowded to move around much. He must've been fuming.

Was that at momo's/kemia? i go there quite regularly (though couldn't make it that night) because they tend to have interesting bands on. but i inevitably feel like the only one in the audience interested in the music, among the gym-toned model barstuff with their friends, the rich yuppies, high class hookers, and the world music types (who seem to be deaf, but are attracted by bands from 'exotic' places) who seem to frequent the place.
