it did put a bit of a dampener on my rediscovered bike love when my sisters boyfriend got hit by a car while going down a massive north london hill and is now seriously fucked

collarbone broke in three places. broken ribs. bruised lungs. hips comepltely shattered. really really bad. hes a proper club cyclist too like our Jenks. knows how to ride a bike. your safety is not in your hands when you ride on the roads. youre compltely at the mercy of the car people.

I've always loved the stripped-down, ultra-minimal look of high-end bikes. sleek, clear lines, solid colors, no logos.

See this is what puts me off. I've really been considering getting a bike since the lockdown. I've never really thought about it before. But it's the cars that put me off. If there were bike paths going absolutely everywhere I'd definitely get on the bikewagon.

Cycle lanes are dangerous in their own right. Which is why a lot of us don't use them even when they're there

What we really need is to ban private ownership of motor cars. Then the whole roads can be for bikes with a few buses and ambulances and delivery vehicles and taxis. This will take about five years though

Rush hour on the bike lanes in Copenhagen is pure crazyness. I'd say Copenhagen has reached peak cycle use now.

i hate how cycling has been upsold, so all the protection and padding, the kit people have, the ridiculous expensive bikes, strava, special water bottles, pouches, all that shit. take a nice simple thing, build a whole bastard system round it.

no one is going to force you to buy a special water bottle. just consider it an endearing quirk of men.

i am really sorry to hear this - too frequent and totally avoidable if cars drivers didn't behave like they owned the roads. I hope he can recover quickly.

Depends what you are planning to do on it. I am a 12,000+ km a year rider who races timetrials, does a bit of offroad/adventure bike bits as well as standard road fare - i like anything that makes me life easier - bike computers, useful pouches, a water bottle that doesn't mean you drink through mud and slurry, clothes which actually do the job. To be honest most of these are essentials - whether most people need power meters or deep section carbon wheels or a £300 bike computer is another matter, possibly.
