Yeah, he's got RSI fairly badly. It looks like the end. There's something new coming as a (hopefully temporary) replacement for his blog which I'm finishing off while he's away.

Drop him a post card, he'd really appreciate it.

thats really bad news - hope it doesn't affect his job too much.

just like to say that uncarved is one of the best blogs (and sites, natch) out there. i'd hate to say all that come to an end, it would be an enormous loss.

has he looked into use of voice activated software? i know some people will similar problems who use apps like dragon. they aren't perfect though.

i'll drop him a line.

still missing eden bad from dissensusland, in these troubled teacup times, i reckon this is what this site's all about rather than strips-tearing and points-scoring in the politricks section......

:) :) :)

Glad you liked it.

When droid has time he's going to do a proper announcement of it in the Events section.

Sadly the system isn't letting me post new threads and only occasionally lets me post anything at all -- some sort of glitch.

LOL - you'd think I had something terminal from all this! :D

It's just achey arms and wrists at the end of the day. Very frustrating and a bit depressing, but not exactly bleak.

Thanks for the props tho.

Physio today, doctor next week...

Enjoyed the mix John and get well soon.

Had RSI a few years ago (until then I thought it was one of the made up illnesses).
Physiotherapy, chiropractor and some mild electrical treatment of some sort (from the physio) made me OK in a few weeks. Since then I've always used gelpads for both the mouse and one in front of the keyboard, as well as making sure I've got a desk large enough so I can rest the whole lower arm ON the desk.

Instead of the arms just dangling in the air - loads of "computer desks" and literature on RSI shows this as the correct way of sitting - but my physio told me it was wrong and that it was better to let the arm rests on the desk (pushing the screen all the way back and the keyboard inwards).

I did also get work to pay for one of these Balans kneeling chairs (ergonomy is big in Scandivia, you see these chairs everywhere - after 8 years in the UK I think I've seen TWO at various workplaces I've been) and generally avoid office chairs with armrests (they get in the way).

I think it's getting better. I'm allowed four 15 minute sessions on a keyboard daily. I hope this will gradually increase, but for now most of this time has to be spent on work stuff.

So I'm not really "back" as such...

thanks eveyone for the nice comments, postcards and letters!

... which was what I said to John last night, though I think he's broadly already aware. (Arms dangling in air = big no no as far as RSI is concerned. At least, that's what I was told - did RSI "training" at work a few years back.)

It's nice when he's here, isn't it... :)
