I just dont know
it seems that often the most exciting and creative producers in any genre draw mostly from outside of that genre... its almost too obvious to say, but it encourages people to think outside of the dominant sound within a scene. if a scene becomes too insular or externally closed then it starts to just turn in on itself, cycling out tired established cliches.

rapid definately gets me very excited... he cites rock as a key influence on his myspace, which is interesting. he's got such a natural flourish for the epic, these vast cinematic calls to arms just seem to fall out of him

Rapid is great but i couldn't find his myspace...only the general Ruff Sqwad one.

I honestly think if Ruff Sqwad came together well at the peak of their powers (now??!) they could make a total masterpiece.

\ i think they're far more into 2-step, R n B, and pop music than they are into hiphop or grime.

i don't buy that...

i love ruff sqwad, but they def do alot of those hip hop/grime beats that so many people do now... admittadly, they were early w/ that style, but it's there... with them it sounds way more organic than when other people do the hip hop/grime thing, but still i'm not buying they're not into hip hop...

rapid was my grime producer of 2006, taking over from people like Terror Danjah, Target and Danny Weed in the melodic/"up" grime department.

Rapid's new production

is something I don't overly like - it varies from the kind disco/house without the 4 kicks like that 'back in the day' or 'get down' to the newer hi (in terms of frequency)-kick drum orientated stuff using that deck effect rub

I think I liked him better when he knew how to use the studio less i.e 'anna' type beats (which I still think is the best thing he's ever done)

he's definitely likes his melodies though

big up all the FL Studio users inside - hold tight lol!

Did Rapid do Lethal Injection? That's my fave ever Ruff Sqwad beat, Pied Piper is up there too and R U double F too, i think they were from the same period.

Sick Boy

All about pride and egos
I'm all about Ruff Squad and a lot of their tracks are massive, but sometimes they put out beats that sound like MIDI versions of a good beat.

But yeah, in an era of grime where there is a serious drought of good producers, Slix and Rapid have held it down for time.

Skola is playing some sick beats rite now on Rinse.....'Computer Girls' and all sorts. Pretty unusual, my respect for Ruff Sqwad is growing all the time...

Two great quotes from that show ( D Brasco ):

"I'm not one to sit and talk
I just get out the kitchen fork"

but even better was

: "In my wardrobe I got so much clothes in so many colours
It looks like a bunch of Skittles"

he was when they were a big old entourage rather than a tighter, smaller unit - he's not doing anything anymore i don't think.

he's also fuda guy's older brother.
