I'm leaving Dissensus.

I've had enough of this place. It's depressing. It's lost the initial interest factor why I came here first : to chat, argue and be informed about cool music (mainly).

There's no really interesting music posts anymore, it's always about bloody dull flat techno music. I read the posts then track down the music yr talking about to confirm and it's rubbish, kinda like the politics you guys all espouse, there's no link between the facts, heart and soul you all yell about. You all talk as spectators and Year12 Debate team winners.

I'm also surpised at the lack of literary and cinema threads. OK, I figger this board is predominately for left-field music fans, but the lack of intellectual imagination some of you lot have is kinda laughable, but I guess thats to be expected. Political art dates and becomes redundant the quickest.

In fact, I'll quote Cronenberg to define the malaise:

"..I do find people walk into movies now with a political agenda -- which is a strange thing to come to a movie with. But I think people are doing that more and more. It's almost a throwback to the old days, when if you were Marxist you saw everything only in Marxist terms. Because of their desire to change things that they feel are wrong, people have somehow shackled themselves nonetheless and limited their experiences. You have to be able to turn down the politics when they require to be turned down. The problem is, people seem to see it as either on or off. There seems to be no middle ground..."

Maybe you expected too much Buick. Like people going to a film based on a videogame or comic book and expecting deep social commentary and a guiding vision for all humanity.

pffffffffffffffft...don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out yeah ?...and cry a tear for me in your beer when the all blacks kick your arse in rugby tonight too. :p

before you go though tell me whats new and interesting in the Ozzie music scene ? We got shitloads here in NZ from hiphop to reggae to neosoulfunk and yes even dubstep ;)

Australia was never really good with the dubstep, bubstep right-step dance thing, though John Paul Young had one of the biggest dance hit/gay anthems written by Vanda and Young(!!) in 'Love is in the Air'. You'll never get shit like THAT from cunt like Ireland, no doubt.

Currently we have some FANTASTIC young guitar bands that have taken the more post-punk route than the Detroit punk route. The Drones which you may have heard of, James McCann and the Dirty Skirt Band are some and Princess 1.5 and Ned Collette on the post-acid-folk indie tip. Aussie hiphop is now mainstream here, so that means you'll never hear of it (or want to) like most mainstream Aussie bands, quite frankly it's terrible.

Have Australia really become so bad @ rugby? I don't care for it really, since we have the greatest sport on the planet AUSSIE RULES.

I'm not gonna engage in as much banter here, since it's all one sided anyway.

werd on the ozzie hiphop. Accents worse then grime heads.

You guys have always done a nice line in guitar rock right back from ac dc and cold chisel and strangely enough syrupy synth pop like kylie and savage garden. Weird extremes.

Avalanches were all good though.

Aussie are still good at rugby but not as good as the allblacks. Aussie rules seems a bit gay. All that running around, grasping at shorts and climbing over each other.

Why do you think the banter tends to be one sided ?

Haven't noticed too much in the way of posts by you over on the Lit threads - come on over and show us what we're missing. So what do you think of Shakespeare, what was the last great book you have read, have you anything to say about Henry Green, David Mitchell, William Gibson, David Peace or anyone else who gets discussed over there.

I know your preferred mode of discourse is the flamethrower approach but don't go around slagging off the paucity of the Lit threads when you've hardly made much contribution yourself.

I was chatting to someone recently who was on here many, many years ago... one of the only things they remembered about Dissensus was 'some horrible Australian guy'.

A total prick that fella. Probably the only person on Dissensus I wouldve been happy to tell to delete their account.

I have a vague memory that he made music with a mate who was not really online and the mate did most of the actual music.

He was delighted when I was diagnosed with a neurological disorder.

To be fair I had baited him a bit when I was a moderator. He had started a tonne of self promotional threads and I merged them all into one and he really hated that and I probably enjoyed escalating the situation. As one does.
