Misty's Big Adventure

Yes we are living in this incredibly bland age, a huge malaise with no real light at the end of the tunnel. But, this fella isn't exactly doing anything to solve it culturally is he? The way he dresses wouldn't look out of place at all at your average indie disco, suit jacket and jeans, retro hat, Strokes-style curly hair, etc. His music isn't a million miles away from what he's critisizing, it sounds like the Magic Numbers or something. Such an obvious, clumsy pastiche fits right into the cack-handed vulgarity of our age.
Y'see, if satire isn't what's needed. Fucking amazing, sexy, stylish, totally fresh music is what's needed.
Ain't gonna happen though. Perhaps because my generation's imaginations have been rotted by MTV/Nintendo/Ipods/you name it.

Mistys are alright though. I saw them at the Tapestry festival last year. There are loads of them, they were falling off the stage, and they have a dancer in a babygro covered with rubber gloves who looks like a Bez jellyfish. It was like what I imagine early Madness gigs must have been like.

This isnt one of their better numbers.

I don't know Misty at all, but I'd imagine that, in this instance at least, that's the point.

Anyhow... way to over-analyse, guys. I'll think twice before posting any more whimsy ;)

Yeah - that bit where he's taking a dig at The Kaiser Chiefs sounds exactly like the Kaiser Chiefs.

That bit where he's taking a dig at Franz Ferdinand sounds exactly like Franz Ferdinand.

Schoolboy errors.

Well, I mean the bit at the beginning where he's in his little studio, before all that kicks off. Besides, I can hardly imagine all his other stuff sounding like Super_Collider or something.

The whole thing feels a lot more like Brit Pop than anything else, but then the Kaiser Chiefs do as well..

I'm always very weary of anyone critising a whole "Age" it just smacks of laziness, if you don't like whats on the radio look elsewhere, there certainly isn't a lack of musical product out there.. ...

Yeah, but a lot of that stuff could have come out 10 years ago (drum and bass, breaks, funky house) there's no sense of progression any more. I feel like I missed out on the 90s, and there's nothing really new going on. And all this retro indie stuff being so popular is like salt in the wound.

I fucking hate normal people, I wish they'd all die. And stay off our airwaves. That means you as well, Chris Moyles.

I don't think I'm interesting or talented enough to make music, and it's a shame more people (like this misty loser and the bands he's slagging) don't feel the same way.

And it's such a dire, obvious, idiotic pastiche. It's like a video to teach five year olds how modern indie is bad. Yes, we get it already.

You're obviously angry enough though :)

Well...maybe I should direct my anger at something more worthwhile, but I dunno, the current malaise in music is tied to a wider malase in culture and politics in general. Everything seems to have slipped down to a lower level. And music is the perfect example of how defeated western youth are, there's not going to be another punk or acid house, just more of this crap.
