i knew someone would say that but i hate lacoste stuff. it's too expensive and looks childish somehow. or at least i think it does on me. all my sweeping sartorial judgements are based on what's good for me, not what other people should wear, which i don't care about much and certainly wouldn't ever get worked up about. in fact, the worse other people look, the better for me, really.

If you buy it in the states it works out about £30 a go. Colours are better than Ralphs too, I think.

I'm also a big fan of LeShark. I actually just like adorning myself with animals.

Is there some sort of neo-totemism going on here, or am I just a kid?

Le Shark stuff is hilariously ironic. It's so shite that it would be awesome to wear.
I actually want to stage a one-man ocean pacific revival at the moment.

I have an amazing le shark darts-style top which I wear with loafers to give the appearance that I have emerged fully-formed from 1983 and am looking for my Cortina because it's got some great Roy Ayres tapes in it.

Pacific Ocean revival?

whatever happened to the pastel ocean pacific sweats with the big backprints? they were kind disgusting, but cool at the same time. i once borrowed one from a friend at school, wore it in the middle of winter with a rubber swimming hat and bermuda shorts while carrying a cardboard replica surfboard. i was told to go upstairs and change immediately.

Either that or a one man eighties soccer casual revival. You're only really the latter if you find yourself with blood all down the shirts.

The Paul Smith sale shop has a buy two get one half price thing going at the moment, if anyone has got money to burn. Brought two at the weekend. A red and white check - pretty much like a Ben Sherman - and a kind of minty check patterny thing. Sorry for the poor quality description - this is the opposite of the shirts. They are luvverly.

i've changed my position on jeans since this thread started,
jeans are hard to get right as they can just look so shit.

this shop here has some very good jeans

bloody marvelous but very expensive.

the one thing i like about american appareil is their colours, they do really rich colours, which is just great, especially for glum brits who dress dark.

I remember having a Le Shark tee-shirt when I was about six. That's not a criticism, just an observation.

I used to have an Abercrombie and Fitch t-shirt with a silhouette of an elk on it.

Today i am wearing a t-shirt with lots of bugs on it. I also have one with a bear, one with pandas, one with a crow and one with a tiger on it.

I have animal problems.

APC New Standards are very nice in the flesh. And as I noted Edwin Nashvilles are the bomb. Lee 101b (boxier) and 101z (slimmer) are also good shouts for something a little cheaper. The b and z refer to button and zip.

I've just ordered some black 501s from the catalogue, as a change from my usual navy. Am I now a goth?

i hate t-shirts really hate them, i scowl at people wearing designer t-shirts.
In my frustration with the ubiquitous ironic T-shirt, I've recently taken to making my own. Here's me rocking my DIY Atari.

And check out the jolly chap on the package. See how happy he is?
Someone is having his salad tossed.

I see Stencil Revolution tutorials are down, so here's a quick run through.

I use overhead transparencies for the stencil, X-Acto knife for trimming, Duncan's soft fabric paint, a 2" foam roller, model paintbrush for touch-ups, paint tray (an ice-cream conatiner lid works quite nicely), and masking tape.

  1. Print the stencil graphic onto the transparency.
  2. Cut the dark sections out using your knife.
  3. Position the stencil as desired on the fabric and tape it down.
  4. Charge your roller with fabric paint by rolling it around, making sure not to over-fill it (Over-filling will cause the roller to slip and may ruin your stencil and your shirt).
  5. Carefully roll the paint across the stencil until all of the desired shapes are visible on the shirt.
  6. Wait 15 minutes.
  7. Repeat paint application in 15 minute intervals until the desired colour density is reached.
  8. Wait 15 minutes after final application before removing the stencil. Touch-up as required and let dry flat for 24hrs.
  9. Carefully wash the stencil, brushes, and paint tray in hot water. You will be able to do another one once they are dry.
  10. Wash fabric in cold water before wearing.
