Speaking of Can/Liebezeit (the initial idea for this mix was to focus exclusively on rhythm, which obviously fell away) does the "Vitamin C" remix work ok? Likewise the other remixes and versions? I'd never try to do that proper, but for the context of a mix like these, it was a fun attempt. Never really done that before. Got a few others that I didn't use this time which might crop up in a future mix.

I think the Can version works just fine; and the Bill Evans one at the end is a perfect way to end (really like this one). The others - gotta say I didn't notice that they'd been tampered with much until I read your write up, so take that as a sign that they work ;) Overall, as I've mentioned elsewhere, I think this is your best mix yet. I just love the way you pull together the sonic connections between such wide-ranging material.

Thanks Matt, Eden, Bass. I hope it held through past twenty minutes (and I'll take scaring off students as bonus).

As for my record collection, it's really nothing unique. I've never specialised much, so it's pretty much what you'd expect a 26 year old with a dozen years of record collecting and about 3k discs to have. I look at it as a good start, but only a start. But there are massive areas into which I have only a slight introduction--probably most of the music the Dissensus crowd focuses on--which excites me. These mixes I've posted here are a relatively good snapshot of where my ears have been drawn the last few years. But in reality, things are pretty open for me.

jeez, and theres me almost ten years older and i don't have such a wide record collection - my fault, i suppose for focussing almost exclusively on dance music for so many years. i tend to get obsessed with one thing and follow it deeply. however, if i count my wifes record collection then i might be getting nearer! ;)

i think you should do more remixes on the strength of this. i don't see you as an amatuer at djing either. the exact opposite in fact!

soundslike, i think i'm in love. this mix is still resonating in my head, very evocative stuff. like others above it had me returning to music i hadn't heard in ages, in particular miles 70s output (dark magus, get up with it) and the wonderful bill evans. you're very good at this, btw.

Thanks so much, Bass and Bruno. Maybe if Droid'll have us for a second go-round, and I can get it together, I'll try another in this vein. But I'm feeling a sunny, cheery, light-hearted affair coming up before then : )

Definite understatement - really enjoying this - maybe even better than Adrift and Gloaming.

Thanks! There was definitely more effort put into mixing, editing, overlapping/texturematching, etc. on this one than 'Adrift' or 'Gloaming'. Pushing the idea a little further.

droid... sorry... I couldn't do it... last week was hectic and all weekend I barely slept...

and my mixes are all cut up into little pieces so I need to re-join them into 1 big file... and to add the ID sound bytes... I need to find my microphone... and I left my mixer at the Gallery last week at the Pan Sonic show and need to go pick it up...

I'm pathetic I know :(

can you possibly schedule me for another time?

again, apologize...

just downloading #7, can't wait to give it a listen. I've been on a big 20th century classical music tip for the last year or so, so I hope this'll tickle my ears.

I loved #6 btw. Huge range of material, but it flowed very well. I love how the bjork comes over all that noise in the background. I must say, tho, that frankie teardrop always fucking throws me for a loop...

Hope it's worth the wait :)

stunning mix - new territory for me, as with soundslike's piece. some truly beautiful music on here with a range of moods - the one that really took my breath away on first listen was the delicate, melancholy, almost middle-eastern melody with the piano - think you might have even described it as "pulsating" in your write up, if its the same track i'm thinking of.

listened to the mix a few times while i was working and i found it highly stimulating.

is this what people call "avant-classical"?

superb work. i think thats the first mix i've heard of yours, hope theres more to come!

Thanks Marc! I really appreciate the feedback. Do you mean the John Adams piano thing - creeps in after two or three minutes and sticks around for a while? That's a great piece - about 30 minutes long, a non-stop marathon that goes through so many changes of tempo and mood. Hugely recommended.

is this what people call "avant-classical"?

Sort of - most of the tracks on there are pretty modern, and quite a few of them would have been described as avant-garde at some point or other, but layering them so heavily in the mix softens the edges quite a bit, and most of them go on for a lot longer than I give them, so what sounds great for a minute or two can get heavy going after nine or ten... But yeah, basically, track by track you could call it avant-classical.

i played it yesterday and immediately had to burn it to disc cos i knew i wanted to keep it.

really very good - made me go and dig out Early Voices by Glass cos i had forgotten how much of this music i used to listen to before i got lazy.

Thanks

Thanks for this Tim :) I've really been looking forward to it. I had to get some things out the way before I could have a real listen, but I'm taking it on the train with me today so I'll be able to give it proper attention.

I'm loving how diverse these mixes are. So cool to have them all in once collection.

well something doesn't want this to happen... my home monitor died 2 nights ago so I can't access my computer...

but you can use the one I uploaded to rapidshare without the tags and ID?

Rambler, do you have an MP3 of your mix? I'd love to hear it (even though I can't STAND john adams  )

Hey Zhao - I'll get round to uploading an MP3 in the next day or so; will keep you posted.

Re John Adams - I only use his early stuff, so hopefully it doesn't jar too much for you.

And thanks all for the kind comments -really appreciate them. :D

No Blogariddims this week Im sorry to say. A series of scheduling mishaps have resulted in an unforgivable no-show, and unfortunately Im away at the moment, and this is the first time Ive seen a computer in 2 weeks, so I couldnt fill the gap with something from my archives.

Sorry to all who were expecting it. Ill figure out some way to make it up! Maybe an extra mix next week or something...
