In need of a page turner or two

12 hour flight coming up so in need of a wicked page-turner to pass any time not spent grappling with children.

To paraphrase Kingsley Amis:

If the opening words aren't "A shot rang out...." I'm not interested.

For me, recent unputdownables have been:

Robinson, by Chris Petit
The Blunderer by Patrica Highsmith
Twilight by William Gay
He Died with his Eyes Open by Derek Raymond

All pretty readable...

I always like to read Iceberg Slim on the plane too, 'cos he's so gripping

Thanks all.

STN: I've grabbed the Highsmith and the Derek Raymond.

Zhao, I've read a bit of Murikami and quite enjoyed it, but for me (alas) not exactly a page turner.

Thanks for bothering though.

Too late for Goines, Slim and Arjouni...doubt I'll find them in Heathrow...will score some on my return...

and a perfect time capsule of 1980's NYC that still has validilty today... "masters of the universe" has def. entered the pop. lexicon as a term for wall street big shots... but, yeah, def a book you can't put down til it's over...

too bad Wolfe kinda jumped the Shark w/ "a man in full" and whatever his last book was...
