Beast of Burden
The Gothic Horror Western line up I'd screen if I had a private cinema:

THE GREAT SILENCE
DJANGO KILL!
A GUN FOR ONE HUNDRED GRAVES
FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE
...AND GOD SAID TO CAIN
CUT THROATS NINE

Because I was bored I found all the trailers for my Gothic Western festival that isn't actually happening.

THE GREAT SILENCE (So great in every way. Just listen to the ravishing theme tune! As you can see, some genius has downloaded the whole film onto youtube, in Italian, with subtitles. Isn't that fantastic!? You could watch the whole thing right now, for free!)

DJANGO KILL! (Er...some of these trailers are better than others. I love this film, it deserves more.)

A GUN FOR ONE HUNDRED GRAVES (Enyoyably arty trailer for Umberto Lenzi's insane zombie Western. Gives absolutely no clue as to the film's contents beyond the actual genre.)

FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE (This is a really shit trailer for a truly great film; what an awful mismatch.)

...AND GOD SAID TO CAIN (The trailer's in German, but you'll get the general idea: a Bava-esque Western with a fantastic theme tune and Klaus Kinski devouring the screen.)

CUT THROATS NINE (This is how to do a trailer!)

I notice that some one has uploaded Lucio Fulci's Don't Torture A Duckling onto youtube as well. Watch it.

"Doomsday". Horrible. Enjoyed "Dog Soldiers" and "The Descent" but "Doomsday" was the most uninspired, unentertaining pastiche of old films I've ever seen and I went in expecting just some dumb fun only to be let down on every possible level. One of the most awful things I've seen in ages.

Judging from the posters, it looks like a hackneyed Mad Max rip-off with some post-28 Days Later "omg, london!!" 'credibility' thrown in - am I close?

Edit: just looked it up on Wiki, and whaddayaknow, it's a 28DL rip-off as well!

that new indiana jones film was such a let down. no fun to it, crap/hard to make out plot that didnt seem to ever gel together, just a general sense of sequel for its own sake (but 20 years too late).

The Good German - terrible neo-noir set in post-war Berlin. Clooney's OK, but Blanchett is simply awful, cackhanded stab at doing a Dietrich - had quite a huigh opinion of her before that, didn't know she was capable of being that bad. Loads of rubbishy allusions to great films (esp Casablanca and 3rd Man) and a love story that never gets past implausible. It's the second US espionage film I've seen lately with 'good' in the title that turned out to be shite.

In The Valley Of Elah

what is it with Paul Haggis? he gets a top cast (Tommy Lee Jones, Theron, Sarandon), tackles interesting subjects (racism in Crash, Iraq here), writes decent dialogue, but makes the most overwhelmingly self-important, heavy-handed films.

Oh yeah, I've read good stuff about this - is it getting a cinema release or what?
