nah, its just the same thing as when all the nolan batman movies and the first avengers film came out. people get so swept up in it, no one can be seen to disagree. its like some sort of need to have a big consensus movie. if we can all agree that hollywood can still do it, all is okay with the world, things are what they used to be, everything is just as as it should be. give it a year or so and some alternative perspectives on it will finally appear. im all for good summer action escapism (eg the first captain america movie, iron man, the first spiderman, even the first pirates of the carribean or transformers), not sure mad max is quite as good as people so desperately want it to be.

Why.

Him, the director, Rza's attemps at making music after the year 2000, convoluted delusions amongst all three, glorification of garbage psychedelic art... I mean, for fuck's sake, anyone telling anyone that psychedelicism is a positive in any way is usually a far stretch from my personal efforts but FUCKING UGH I wanted to throw up. His voice sounds like a man consistently belching and never saying excuse me, The Watchmen and V For Vendetta fucking suck, I just can't deal with this...

This fucking wannabe druid. This is exactly why Kieron Gillen is running with his shtick and doing far superior to it.

No - it just shows that he should have retired years ago. There was a trailer for the Diana movie just before this one came on (Bluray) - I doubt if it's any worse than this.

it was meant to be a TV movie, if that makes any difference. i think it only got a cinema release outside the US... i liked it, in a padded out, soapy, slightly silly, tv movie sort of way.

I like the TV series he did "Knick" recenly, but yeah I got 10 minutes into "Behind The Chandelabra" and I passed out. Same with the recent David Mamet thing on Phil Spector, but the latter was particularly marred b/c I watched in on a 60 fps TV which makes everything on the planet look like community theater, all lighting, set design and whatever is rendered to crumbs. HBO movies suck it seems, but I do still want to see the Latifah Bessie Smith movie.

Completely disagree with the mad max bashing here. it was stupendously over the top with tons of little details that made the whole package fantastically compelling. Was pleasantly surprised to hear Brendan McCarthy was involved - but it makes a lot of sense.

Yes I know I shouldn't have been watching it in the first place, but the new Terminator film was even worse than I could have expected. Industrially bad in every respect.

The only redeeming feature was the annihilation of the human race in a nuclear firestorm - and that only lasted 30 seconds or so.

Ideas for a new terminator trilogy

Terminator: Annihilation

Shots of children playing, birds flying, traffic, everyday life etc. followed by excruciatingly detailed HD CG nuclear annihilation. 8-10 minutes per sequence - I figure 12-15 cities destroyed in the 2 hour running time.

Terminator: Subterranean

Vignettes from a small community of survivors trapped underground in the wake of nuclear assault as they succumb to desperation, violence, cannibalistic ritual and mass suicide.

Terminator: Shoah

Life in a robot extermination camp. Follows the adventures of a kapo dermatologist, one of the few members of the human race allowed to survive, as they alone have the skills and experience necessary to maintain the health of the skin necessary to disguise terminators.
