OK, Jakarta in Colindale comes recommended, as does Nusa Dua in Dean Street, which you no doubt know about.

I miss Oriental City in Colindale, had the best sushi I've had anywhere at Noto in there.

was oriental city like a giant indoor market with hundreds of food vendors inside? i really like those places and always wondered why london doesnt have them.

It was - a big supermarket, food hall with Noto, amusement arcade, Japanese bookshop, all sorts. Durian sellers outside presumably because they weren't permitted inside. It was always busy too. I think it's a Morrisons now, last time i went must have been 8 or 9 years ago.

Wikipedia says there's something similar in Wembley now.

Do you mean Lee high rd? There's a really good Turkish place in Lewisham called levante pide, the Italian deli on that road is really good too.

Tight but Polite
Mostly only a problem if people are thick enough to think that pulled pork banh mi in a brioche bun is the be-all and end-all of banh mi. But then, people probably are that thick. I saw a food trends thing in the Observer the other day that was getting excited about "posh kebabs" for 2015 and the fact that someone in Clerkenwell is doing them now so they aren't just late-night e-coli vectors any more.

Let's Talk About Ceps
God, the idea of "posh kebabs" makes me cringe - assuming that by "posh" they mean "good enough to eat sober and probably not going to give you the galloping shits", as opposed to "served on a silver platter with a glass of Chateau Latour grand cru by a waiter dressed like a Victorian butler". Good kebabs have been available from Turkish and Kurdish-Turkish places all over NE London since forever, as long you know what to order, and no-one thought to call them "posh".
